The things you find at a rifle match

I was only 9 targets away on the rain day, but never seen or heard about this. I did hear someone comment if they could legally strap something to there body that would hang forward without contacting the ground.

I wish I had a picture of Des Parr at the 2nd F Class Nats in Oak Ridge. He had a rubber mat with a hole for the elevation turret. God bless a person who shoots in the rain so much they actually make stuff like this so they can keep going.

There was an Aussie at Lodi for the National Championships a several years back wearing a coat/cape contraption that literally made him look like a Christmas tree minus the ornaments. When he laid down to shoot in the rain, the top part folded forward keeping rain off his head and the rifle. I thought it was pretty smart, but I'm sure someone probably complained about it.

Oh lord. I remember something like that but I thought it was the South Africans that had the cape hood.
We really need to define the line between fairness and safety. We want the match to continue even in rain if possible but building a barn might be excessive. Why not allow umbrellas and just move on.

Everytime I've gone to shoot a match in the rain what stopped us wasn't rifles or people getting wet, but pasters wouldn't stick to the targets anymore... end of match.

Might have been the South Africans. All I remember is that it was green like a Christmas tree, and shaped, also like a Christmas tree. LOL

I may just cut up a clear umbrella and mount it to my rifle.

I understand why they don’t allow you to be covered. Obstructing view from line officers. But I agree that clear umbrellas shouldn’t be that much of an issue. Combination scope stand and umbrella holder. Set it low while your shooting, and just over your head while scoring. Scoring on a wet card doesn’t work well either.

I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed. If the cartidges get wet and it gets in chamber, pressures rise dramatically. I was in a match a few years ago and it was misting, the wind was blowing towards the benches. This is BR and under a roof. During the sighter period, i could keep my case dry with my arm. Once we went to record, I needed both hands to shoot. Till i got to the end of records (10 shots) my cases were wet. The pressure built that bad by the 7th shot i couldnt hardly get the bolt open. The ejector was jammed in the bolt also.

When i got home and measured those cases, they grew .003 in the ejector groove. Those cases were trash. Another guy told me exactly the same thing and his cases were .003 expanded also. I would think for safety sake you should be allowed to cover. How much over pressure was there? Matt

I was also sent this. Pretty obvious it’s just a chicken in a bikini.

Version 1.2 we are trying out now and it seems to really work when you pair it with a Creedmoor
