I agree with you on the Curtis Custom actions. I sold quite a few of them here in N. Nevada. This was my bolt after practical precision type match in Red Bluff CA. There was dust and dirt in everything and the Axioms never had a problem.

I would love to try a Borden. The new Borden "Super Short 6" action has definitely piqued my interest. Not sure if I would like the cock on close though.

The current so called "best PRS action" is pretty over-hyped IMO.

Will probably keep using my Mausingfield for a while though, it works well and I can't afford to always jump on the new pretty girl in town.

That about sums it up for me as well.

It's kinda funny though, I've been saying for the last couple years, when is someone coming out with a BR sized action with mags made to feed these cases, and cock on close to take advantage of the momentum already in motion!!!

Borden, you owe me a free rifle, JK, though I do accept charity!

I did try out Rusty's Impact, man it was nice!

To be clear, I don't think there is anything wrong with the action, I just think it's over-hyped. For how much people talk about it you would think it's a ground breaking action. It's certainly one of the best renditions of a R700 action yet for PRS though. However, those that I know that have handled a LP and an Impact all say the LP is a better action.

In all fairness though, any action would be over-hyped if it was talked about as much as the Impact is.

What makes the impact better than the last 32 best prs actions? Do prs shooters go with the best sponsor or the actual best action tested? I can understand supporting sponsors but a prs sponsorship is very expensive. A brand new action on the scene, not used in any other sport besides prs, has got to have a ton of extra money on it to pay for that

I wouldn't read too much into what sponsored PRS shooters are using. They jump around action makers like a sex addict at a whore house.

People like the Impact because it feels smooth, has a nice bolt lift and does very well in the dust. It's essentially a refined Surgeon with a trigger hanger.

I don't have that problem with mine.

Mausingfield does really good - much better with reliability in dusty/dirty conditions than the Defiance it replaced. I love the 105/5 cocking - I have come to prefer it over cock on close. Bolt lift on mine is really light, bolt close is even lighter. Impossible to get the bolt to bind. Handles the 6br cases well. I enjoy the CRF function. My specific action is one of the slickest actions I've felt. Not sure if most/all feel this good or I got lucky.

With that said, I have a friend with a Mausingfield from the same batch. His bolt lift and close is MUCH stiffer. I think it's a trigger timing issue - he runs a Huber, I run a BnA Tacsport.
 
In the world of hunting, I plan environment and beast first, cartridge second, stock then barrel then action.

Are you long range hunting or stalking and getting close? Is it woodland or open ground? All these environmental aspects make consideration on how loose or tight an action is required.
For mountain deer hunting in Scotland, we wouldn't recommend a Blaser for example due to heather and grime clogging up the mechanism. You want "sloppy" actions as it will get very wet in streams, and very dirty in bogs etc.
But if you are long range shooting deer, you are parking yourself up with all the time in the world....pick any action you can get your hands on that tickles you, be it bat, Stiller or whoever.
Same applies to highseat shooting...

I really don't know why Borden's aren't popular in PRS. Nobody in those circles talk about Borden's - they probably don't even know they exist.

Like I said in a previous post, I'm not sure if it's a reliability thing (not claiming they are unreliable in adverse conditions - I really don't know) or just pure ignorance for why field shooters don't try Borden's.

I think the Borden mountaineer with the Borden bumps is only 2 years old, and with sponsorship against them it will be a few years yet,
the folks that try them know their,benefits
