The Rifle Book - Jack O'Connor

Does anyone on this Forum have a copy of this Book? It was written by Jack O'Connor.

If you do, would you be kind enough to PM. I have a question on one topic in the book to settle a debate with a fellow shooter. Thanks in advance.

No problem, just trying to settle a debate. The issue I was interested in was in the rifle care section of the book. Jack's cleaning process especially the solvent used and frequency of he cleaned his rifles.

I don't think Jack was as fastidious as many modern day target shooters are. He doesn't mention a particular brand of solvent or oil other than Rig if to be stored.
 
I've got the book if you've got any more questions. Matter of fact if anybody needs the book---?? It may need a better home than I'm giving it. jd

I honestly haven't done more than just thumbed through it. I'm sure it's informative in a kind of a fifty or sixty year old way. Just like me. :)

It's got a lot of fundamental knowledge that will always be true, and prolly a lot of stuff that folks no longer value. Very nostalgic for us who were raised in his time, and pretty interesting for those who weren't. I've talked to old codgers who probably got most of what they know from this book and a few others like it.

This page right here will be the source of arguments forever. jd

Jack O'Connor grew up in an era where common sense was common, at least with regarding to hunting.

W. D. M. "Karamojo" Bell killed some 800 elephants with a .275 Rigby (aka 7x57mm Mauser).

I'd say it was a different time back then. Imagine a world where anyone might kill, or even want to kill 800 elephants! Was it ivory trade - crop protection -- meat market??

I'd guesss the most of those kills were probably a pill to the brain at 50 yards. jd
