With that particular press, I doubt you'll gain anything.Ok this will bring up a whole new bunch of comments all positive I hope here goes. I have a Redding T7 that I reload with and I am going to try the o-ring method. Currently it is set up with 223 and 308 Competion seating and neck bushing dies along with the body dies and the 7th is a decapping die. I know the turret will rock a little when using the press more with the neck and boby dies than the seating dies. I do use a small shim at the rear of the press to minimize the rock or stop it completely. Ok do I use O-rings under all the dies and how much pressure is best to put on the o-ring? I guess what I mean is how much float in the movemen? Thanks Mike
I think I will just start with the 223 dies and see what happens. The press does have a .004 rock in it if I fail to shim it. Thanks . I am retired so time is what I have plenty of at the moment. I do have a K&N press with a 308 Wilson Seating Die just not ready to jump in on the 223 wilson die just yet.You don't need much pressure. The o-ring just centers the shell holder on the ram like the snap ring does. Smaller is probably better. Also use a little lube in the ram, holder surfaces to allow them to float easier.
What size o-ring for the ram did you use?I replaced the C clip that retains the shell holder with an O ring (as thousands of other have) to allow the shell holder to float to find center of the die. And yes I use O rings under lock nuts wherever found on reloading dies. Barlow
Mike, I really don't know the exact size, but any that will fit snug around the grove will work fine. BarlowWhat size o-ring for the ram did you use?
I am always amazed that some seem to want multiple published verification of something that they could easily determine for themselves, by doing an easy to perform experiment. All that is required is an O ring, and a concentricity gauge. Yes, it works.
That's how I do mineHow about bumping your die with the shell holder at full stroke then tighten the lock ring? That should square the die ?

What If your proper die setting does not have your shell holder in contact with the die? How do you handle that?
Wouldn't the shoulder of the case being set back not true the die. What If your proper die setting does not have your shell holder in contact with the die? How do you handle that?
