The 'New' ChargeMaster 1500 first report

Thanks for the reply. I have a friend who shoots longrange and he has both the Acculab and the Chargemaster but I just found out he sets his Chargemaster lower than the charge he wants then trickles in the rest using the Acculab. Thanks again Jim

After putting almost 7# +, 4064, varget, 3031, H110 thru my Charge master I have found,,I think), a couple of quirks.

1. All 8 leveling screws need to be in adjustment, I really need to find a nice marble or granite slab to set it on.

2. My consistancy, tare weight) is almost always the same and does not, usually, change during a session, if I've set up right. When it does and I check against the 10-10 scale the charge is not off.

3. I plug in and turn it on for at least 1 hour prior to using, I think it helped the tare issue. The tare will go out .1 or so during the session it does not seem to affect the charge according to the 10-10 scale.

4. I use the aute dispense, hear the beep, wait, it counts the charge, returns to weight on the scale and it will show an over charge. The long grain 4064 is sometimes .3 over. I just remove the over and move forward.

Does anybody else see some quirks and work arounds?

Black Canyon in Arizona and San Gabriel in Calif hold high power Shoots. Don't know if that is considered F class but the same guys go to Camp Pendleton and Sacramento.

Try a Chinese Granite block such as this: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=1&p=32526&cat=1,43513,51657
To mount your scales on.

Harvey is correct...all 8 screws must be on plane. Also unit must be level, I use a 1/4" alum plate with 3 adjusting screws. Static must be dealed with...use an anti-static spray and/or sheets. I also use a anti-static element inside cover, can't remember name of unit, but is radioactive). Air movement must be minimized, turn off any fans, ac units etc. Viberation needs to be addressed via sturdy bench, no walking around while unit is running, no kids, etc. lastly a clean power supply is needed, curently I use a surge protector to a UPS to a CVT,Sola transformer). Latest results are +/- .05 gr in 50 rds @ load of 28.3 gr of V 133, only 4 loads were not exact, checked with an Ohaus digital. The CVT seems to act as a shock absorber to the electronics, you can see the difference in the operation of tube, starts and stops much more gently. As this CVT is a cvn unit perhaps the stepped wave causes this action. Good Luck....

Three posts deleted because they strayed way off topic.

No hand-slapping--it's not a big deal. I just decided the thread was better without these three posts.

A update on my experience.

Yesterday, was set up on 12/26/06 also) I set up the 1500 and could not get a correct pan tare. It was off 1.6 gns. The scale zeroed and would throw an exact charge according to my 10-10 scale so here I am "WTF" with a pan zero varying but always light. Dumped all powder back in container and look for answer.

Tried to reweigh the calibration weights and as I moved them within 1/8" of scale the readout would start to respond. I lost some hair here.

Got my electric meters and checked line voltage all normal.

Remembered a couple of issues about this stuff from this site. Searched and reread... Off to the laundry room I go.

1 static cling sheet later all is perfect. Actually it is the best powder session I have ever had. The zero held all the way thru. The pan stayed consistent, a couple of times it did stray .1 but returned after next charge.

If you use the static spray where do you spray it? How do you use your static sheets? I rubbed mine all over the exposed parts and pulled out the plastic pan and rubbed that also.

Thanks for taking your time to share your thoughts on this in the previous posts it saved me a loading session and a batch of phone calls, after the holiday, to RCBS.

Good Luck to all in 2007, May your bullets fly straight and true.
