The "New .40S&W"

Size Maters for Me! 43x with 15 round mag is near me every day. But in the house 357sig is within reach. night stand 10mm and I wont be aiming if you are in my house. I am not a 9mm fan but it has its place. I would prefer a 40cal.

No more than with a 40.
A 45 ACP with 230 grain +P or super loads is a handfull and requires practice. In my experience a 40 S&W with max loads is a great deal easier to handle, a full sized 10MM to me seems more snappy but does not have the torque of a 45 super load.

Metal framed double stack 45's reduce the issue but are heavy, the single stack with 45 Super loads really take practice.

This is a good read about incapacitating/caliber/number of shots.
excellent post and read

A local shop has had a 10mm Glock sitting in the rack for a few months. I might give myself an upgrade?
Bought one last year, Glock 20, absolutely love it. It’s fun to load for, fun to shoot, easy to carry. I have 45s, 9mms, big revolvers but the Glock is another good tool to have.

My Everyday carry is a 365 macro comp, easy gun to carry and 147 grain hydra shoks shouldn’t tickle. Been using the Glock for a hiking handgun where lions and wolf populations have exploded in recent years. Bears too.

The 10 mm is an awesome round, you can load it from mild to powerful. Pretty darn accurate, a handful in a semiautomatic if loaded to max power. If I could only have One pistol caliber only it would be a 10mm. My favorite revolver round . IMG_1918.jpg

The Glock 19 is, the TOP Selling Pistol in America for, a Reason !
Shoot " Good", 124's or 147's and make, the First shot,.. "Count" !
And a "Double Tap", after,.. that !
The 10 MM is Fine in Bear Country but, I couldn't shoot mine, as "well" as, the Model 19 or, Mod 34 Glock's that, I now, own !
In a Pistol, GOOD Triggers,.. ARE, your Friend
What do you like your trigger pull weight to be in Lb's of pull.

I believe most Semi-Auto Pistol Triggers are something like 5-6 lbs.

Ok….question… Glock 20, Glock 20 Compensated, Glock 40 (long slide/barrel) or S&W M&P Performance Center 10mm.
I’m only “allowed “ to buy one. Which?

I have never understood this. No the 9mm is not as powerful as the .40S&W and people saying that "it's almost as powerful as the .40" now with the new powders and bullets out still doesn't make it as powerful, ... period.

I shoot steel plates from time to time and yes I take both a 9mm and a .40S&W when I do so. When a .40 hits a steel plate it slams it down hard, when a 9mm, (147gr) hits it, it goes down but clearly not as hard or as fast.

If you watch the news you will see reports of people being shot with a 9mm and then driving themselves to the hospital. Well what if they take that time to shoot at you again instead? I mean you didn't start this but you did have to defend yourself against this person and it's very likely you don't want them to keep trying to kill you after you were forced to shoot them in the first place.

The 9mm has it's place, but it's not the "the new .40S&W" and saying so to sell more ammo won't help you if that person keeps shooting at you when you are forced to defend yourself. You may want to think about that.
Are we talking about WWII 9mm Parabellum or SAMMI gimp 9mm Parabellum? Real 9mm should be 9mm Parabellum +P.

40S&W is just 10mm Auto for wimps that can not handle 10mm Auto. I mean if we are going tobe passive aggressive girly men I will go all the way. No I do not really feel that strongly but if people that live in glass houses want to throw stones I am down for the Dinnie Stone!

For EDC carry for a whit if that is likely to never happen I am good witha 9mm as my EDC90% of the time and something even smaller for those times I want to wear shorts and a fanny pack is not convient!

I amnot going to hunt like that and not going to want to go to war liek that and would not want to work as a LEO like that!

The best gun is the one you will carry every day that beats no gun at all or a sharp pointy stick or a fist. Getting into a what is best to kill another man who has pushed me to the point that I can not just get up and walk away is a mind numbing stubid conversation. You might as well be asking who would win a fight Mighty Mouse or Super Man!?!?!

I find this especialy true from anyone that has never been shot at in real life or had to shoot back at another man. Heck most of you have never been in a fist fight with another grown man that wanted to end you.

I am 50 years old with bad knee's, ankles and shoulder I am not able to physicaly flee. One on one even with a younger healthier stronger man I can hold my own. That said having the ability to be armed and to use lethal force if need be is a gift from God and upheld by our founding father's!

I have carried a 44Mag and reloads daily it get's old. If your not going into a war zone and your not a LEO why does it matter? Next time you get a wild bore or deer put a 9mm +P, 40 S&W, 38SPL, 357Mag and 44Mag etc into it one next to the other all with similar or identical bullets. Measure the wound track and damage and then consider a man is not as tough!

Anything is better than fist or pointy stick. I amnot anti 40S&W I just think from actual experince shooting things that 9mm Para to 357Mag is more than enougha nd more is just silly to have to cary around EDC. 9mm Para today is fantastic if you are carrying premium ammo and not NATO or Target ball 9mm+P is ideal. To split hairs on how best to kill another man just seems silly. You can find exceptions for almost everything.

Cheers!

Another excellent post.

Anything less than a 460 S&W Magnum just won’t have the knock down you need. I recommend everyone shove one of these down your trousers and feel confident you have the most power available when a rifle won't conceal in your jacket for your grocery store run.

Well, I took a Friend’s out yesterday for sighting in; it was an experience.
200 gr Hornady FTX, bright but not punishing.
