The MIGHTY 6.5 Creedmoor

Think so? Not so sure about that. Some will always remain committed to what came before and I'd agree that a 6.5x55 does not loose much to the newer calibers like 6.5x47, 260, 264, 6.5 Grendel or 6.5 Creedmoor. The interesting thing to me is that these controversies do not exist to the same degree when it comes to the 6br variants. Should another 6br variant be introduced by a major industry player I would not be surprised to find controversy erupt. As with many things in life, when something new is introduced, someones ox just got gored.

I don't really care either way just saying the whole Creedmoor bashing thread has been done more than a few times now

I don't have a dog in this fight, don't have a Creedmore, don't shoot in competition, don't intend to; But I do like the friendly banter. Much like the bench racing that used to go on in the speed shop I grew up working in. Just friends haggling about nothing special so as to bond and share a laugh or two.

Thanks to all that participate in that spirit.

"friendly banter?" I think knot, surely you jest!!! this thread is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE!! it will eventually separated the REAL shooters from the WANNABE'S. and of course, the REAL shooters will be EASILY identified by the caliber of choice, the 6.5 MIGHTY CREEDMOOR of course!! all concerned here should be VERY HAPPY that cap'n dan and his fine dog have held their peace on the matter. once he gets truly involved, crazy things happen. you know, tilt of the earth, planets lining up at unexpected times, seasons changing out of season. you know, old testament type things!! just to be sure, this is NOT friendly banter, just the righteous trying to enlighten the masses:oops:;)

I helped a 78 year old member today get distance zeros with his new rifle, He bought a Tikka heavy barrel topped with a higher end Vortex scope. Nice rig. He was thrilled to print two inch groups on steel at 300 meters with Hornady factory match ammo. "It's a 6.5 Creedmoor. Have you ever heard of it" ? he said. Oh, yes I have. "It's a shorter version of the .260 Remington" Have you ever heard of that cartridge? I ask him. "No, I have not". ;)

Now the emotions are surfacing. What I find particularly fascinating is how seemingly innocent caliber bashing rapidly degrades into cancel culture tactics being employed within our little community against others within the same community. Fascinating study in the psychology of personal preference. Edwards Personal Preference Schedule to be exact. The real question of course is what needs are being met by those who employ these cancel culture tactics? Perhaps those caught in the cancel culture trap could enlighten us with respect to the needs being satisfied when they engage in those tactics.

now I'm wondering, is this a college project, maybe a psych project? stir the pot among innocent bystanders and watch it downgrade to a to an Edwards schedule. shame, shame ;) and just who in the heck is this Edwards guy, is he a good shot:rolleyes:

No, not a college project. Been over 40 years since college. Still a student of human nature though.

Group Therapy, good name. Perhaps you could be of assistance. Do you not find it intriguing how such small population of individuals with a common purpose could find the most trivial of details to get all butt hurt over when said population is under attack from so many different directions? Why is it that a given population would target its own members for derision when they are surrounded by a common foe? I see this everywhere these days. Groups of individuals hell bent on their own destruction. Could it be rooted in an argument for the deevolution of man? I wonder...

well...... im glad you like the handle, it has multiple meanings, LOL. once you start looking into human nature it gets as varied as the number of opinions in a given group. I, for one, like to play more than be serious so I like to keep things lite. there are an AMAZING number of shooters on here that take themselves WAY to serious!! but thats just their nature, their way is right, period. then you look at the GOOD shooters on here(most of them) and they are compliant, forth coming with knowledge and experience they had to work to get, and not in the group mentioned earlier. hopefully, our common foe will lose the election and we can have 4 more years of peace. if not, you will probably(hopefully) see the banding together of like minded individuals to fight the common foe. I think, as a whole, it seems like civilization is in a state of deevolution at an alarming rate, the common good no longer matters. so....... this is way too long of a post for me and WAY to serious. im fixing to get loaded up for the memphis match and hopefully have a good session of group therapy, and will continue to do my small part in improving civilization and prepare to fight the good fight against a common foe. until next time, verum mane;)

Not bashing the Creedmoor.
My neighbors 8yr old daughter started shooting with one.

She's 9 now and shooting a 7mm Rem Mag.
3 or 4 20 round strings in a day with a 7mm mag would make her a formidable individual. I'm not man enough. That 6.5 Creedmoor barrel is screwed on to a BAT VR action and was a 6.5 PRC. Even with the 32 inch Bartlien barrel and and the gun weighing in at 19 pounds, I could not get it to shoot consistently enough for competition. It was accurate enough that it would have made a fine long range hunting rifle. Then chambered up a 300 WSM and screwed it on. Shot better but absent waiting 6 months for a stock and installing a RAD, the stock it was on was pounding me and as a result took a significant tole in matches.

Took that 6.5 PRC barrel, cut off the chamber, chambered it for 6.5 Creedmoor and screwed it on. Much better. Currently it is shooting about 1/4 MOA. That 300 WSM barrel is going to get the same treatment only chambered for 308 and throated for 200-20x with a reamer I borrowed from a friend. A 284 barrel may be in its future but too many projects going at present to even chamber the 300wsm barrel to 308. I'm giving up on the magnum rounds for now. I have both a mag and a standard bolt for that action so maybe one day another mag caliber that works in a short action will be in the offing. Playing with different calibers has become a habit. One that does not advance competitive standing but is a whole lot of fun. Not sure if I'm more into shooting or more into tinkering.

Oh, i fully understand that!
Laying in bed one night, it popped into my head what ballistics from a 7mm WSSM would be like..
Then my crayon went outside the box on a cartridge/bullet combo for KO2M....

That could be because the 6 BR variants are used in LR BR where very small differences in performance are often the difference between winning and losing. As such, competitors don't really have much loyalty to a specific cartridge; they care about what works.

The three common 6mms right now are the 6mm BRA, 6mm Dasher, and 6 BR in pretty much that order of popularity. They all will win on a given day. We think the BRA has an advantage over the Dasher because we can get the velocities that are usually the most accurate with a grain less powder in the BRA. We think that makes it a tad less likely to erode the throat and put us out of tune during a match. Conversely, we think the straight 6BR doesn't really have enough case capacity to get us to the most accurate velocities for the 6mm bullets we shoot.

When it comes to the 6.5 Creedmoor and the competitions it's used in, I am not sure minute differences in tuning make that much of a difference in a match. This means there is a greater variation of what cartridges will work, and that allows more flexibility to have a favorite that may nor provides any real advantage.

But that's just my guess. Though I tried it a couple times, I just don't get why someone would lay on their belly to shoot a competition when they could be comfortably sitting at a bench. So maybe the Creedmoor fetish has more to do with wanting to do weird things than it does any objective reason..... :D

only in the big production container. the 2oz bottles simply could not contain all the greatness that comes from the mighty 6.5. you see the results I got just by dipping it in the big pot, just imagine if I dipped it in each of the little bottles!!
Well I just ordered some Hobo Oil... If it does not work as advertised do I send it back or simply waive a Creedmoor over it?

Needs to wave the mighty creedmoor barrel over it. It has the properties of a magic wand. :)
