The kid got his first crow Saturday

My son and I took a trip out to Avella Pa. yesterday to a friends farm looking for some hogs. We only saw 4 GHogs all afternoon and got 3, One 393yds took off his nose. 450yd. a 570yd. the 4th one was 1150yds we got 4 shots at him and the closest Mike got was 2ft. after I got the 6.5-284 dialed up but that chuck didn't want to stay around anymore. Since there wasn't much activity we started shooting at some crows at the 1150yd area but didn't get a hit either. back closer another crow landed near the 570yd area and Mike picked him off but the crow flew alittle before falling. Next crow landed out further and I ranged him at 606yds. I dialed in the elevation for that range and Mike took a shot and all we saw was a puff of feathers!

Mate, that is fantastic stuff.
I am still waiting on my 6mmbr to be finished but I look forward to some good, long varmint shots on the rabbit and fox population. Were you shooting 6mmbr or another calibre?

I think he's shooting a 6.5x284 not sure of the exact chamber but something in that family he writes in the post at least...

A boy and his dad out in the field. It can't get any better than that. I cut my teeth on the Varmint and Crow Hunter's Bible by Bert Popowski. I still have it. Must have read it a hundred times before I started going out in the field and many times after. Nothing can be better than hunting with one of your own and share in his or her success. Great story.
