The Great Pumpkin has arrived...

Linus (Peanuts) always sat beside the Pumpkin Patch on Thanksgiving Eve, waiting for the "Great Pumpkin" to arrive. He never did, but Linus' belief never wavered. Mine either.

I ordered a Lipsey's Ruger Stainless Steel and Laminated Stock in 35 Whelen from AmmoJo (Keith Greene) on Saturday. It arrived about an hour ago. It may be T-H-E perfect under 300 yards rifle for all of NA and most of Africa.

Keith is great to deal with.

thanks,

Rich

Ruger demon strikes again!! I took the rifle and a a Leupold 1.50-5X scope to my gunsmith to have it mounted and scope rough zeroed. Ruger shipped the rifle with two #4 (low) rings. Mount the scope and can't even open the bolt. And they are closed today. So, Monday I get to dance the dance with Customer Service to see if they will replace them.

I am having one of THOSE days...

They used to replace them with no dance, but they may require cash these days. They sell rings on the Ruger site. I have never shot a 35 Whelen but, always thought my 77 tang safety in 338 win mag held the title of best 300yd on all NA game.

ISS, if you don't already have a set of 35 Whelen dies, I'm your huckelberry. Got a new set of RCBS dies unused sitting on the shelf looking for a new home.

The 35+ caliber "primitive weapons" laws here in some of the southern states are pretty silly but I've always liked that they unintentionally made the 35 Whelen a popular round. I know lots of public land hunters that have become one gun hunters using their single shot 35 Whelens all the way through.
