If you think you can save money by rolling your own then run now.. lol.. the problem is you can save money by loading your own but then you shoot way more than you would buying off the shelf.. then you realize how enjoyable it is and then you find out you have to have better equipment to do it better then you get your gun shooting so good it gets boring.. well at that point you gotta get a new gun.. and start over.. then you figure out you can build them also.. next thing you know you have a few safes full of them.. and the gear to reload for them.. if all goes well you can support your habbit i mean hobby.. if it doesnt go well they find you under a bridge living in a cardboard box..

I have a Skeeter ZXR20 on order. It should be here in a couple of weeks. My 16 year old son and his buddy are going to fish the Texas High School Bass Association trail. I'm going to captain. It should be here in a couple of weeks. I about throw up ever time I think about how much its going to cost. I am selling a 17' Triton to upgrade to a bigger boat for the bigger lakes. All it takes is money!

Hopefully they will get a full season next year. My neighbor's son across the road got $2500 is scholarship this year and so did a very good friends grandson. Bass fishing was good for them, especially since neither family had any money in the boats.

I think I have succeeded.

As for my shooting “hobby”, let’s just say I am never satisfied.

What will your investment be after pulling your 540 CID and installing a new LX engine assembly?

I may not know how to to tell when you have "enough" but I have figured out how to justify not having "enough". From a 1955 Lee hammer realoading rig, Star loaders and lubsizers. Plus a Master Caster in the 60s, Wilson set up in the 70s, skeet and trap in the 80s and 90s, shot shell rigs, Texans, poiness Warren, and a full set of hyd mecs, all four gauges, 2000 to present long range bench rifles, never sold a thing. Still have it all, just keep building bigger shops... BUT, I have a plan, came to me just before my 75th birthday this week. When I get too old to shoot I'm going to open a museum, sit on the front porch in a rocking chair and collect 50 cents a head to go in and look

Self-loading/reloading ammunition is my hobby and as such it is not particularly costly. But buying and building those darn rifles to test that ammunition, that's what is expensive.

Yah, that's how I got into competition shooting too... reloading for a couple of pistols I'd inherited, then looking for a better place to shoot them - preferably outdoors - led me to a local club, then a CMP clinic they were hosting (This is an AR? Heck, this is FUN!), then buying a service rifle... long-range rifle... spacegun... Palma rifle (no wait, three of 'em)....

The engine is a 540 cid big block. I had “The Wop Shop” in Houston build it.

It is pure street.

The block is a Dart Big M. The crank is a 4340 Scat, the rods are Calles, pistons are Malle forged. The heads a Air Flow Research CNC 290’s. The compression is 10 to 1. The cam is a hydraulic roller, 234/244 at .050, .675 lift. The fuel injection is the Holley HP multiport with the 1150 com throttle body.

The transmission is the TCI 6x 6 speed auto, overdrive, lock up converter with a 3000 stall. The rear end is a 12 bolt built by Pyle Brothers with Moser axels and a Eaton TruTrac. The brakes are Willwood disc all around, with a Hydraboost brake booster. The radiator is a BeCool unit with twin 13 inch Spal electric fans.

Suspension is Hotchkis, the exhaust is a 3.5 diameter X pipe going through Walker Dynomax mufflers.

It’s a nice hot rod.

Somehow I don't think my wife will be impressed with the cost of good quality thermal bino's and riflescope. As always, it is easier to ask for forgiveness after the purchase than ask for permission..
