I always have unless it was under warranty, and that would have been only, oh, 3 cars since 1975.

I used to drive 180 miles/day round trip for work. Sometimes, I wouldn't have a day off in 3 - 4 months. Spent 8 hours at work once I got there. So, basically, 12 hour days for 3-4 months. Minimum of 5 days/week. Year round.

And I had a house and garage I heated with wood. 14-16 cord per year. Cut it and hauled it myself. Had an oil change about once a month, let alone whatever else went wrong. Had to replace a car roughly every 4 years. Bought them around 100K miles for $2500-$3500. Usually had well over 200K miles when I decided the cost wasn't effective.

I must say, it's a good thing I was young. I couldn't do it now without winding up in the hospital.
