The Best Way To Find A Lost Tool.................

Well here's my lost and found story that spans years. I worked in a coal mine and was doing vibration data gathering on a coal shovel. That went well. BUT that night When I got home from my gym workout at the rec center, I couldn't find my wallet. I went back to the gym, looked in the locker room and asked at the desk. Looked in the park lot and figured it was gone as the snowplow had come through. So get all new stuff, and wallet. Fast forward 4 years. Wallet is completely forgot about. Out at the mine and that evening one of the shovel operators walks up to me and says he found my wallet. I say no it's in my pocket. So he hands me the wallet I lost 4 years ago. Seems that day I was taking vibration readings I had squatted down and one of the gear boxes had pushed it out of my pocket. Somehow it went under the box. Years later maint is removing the box for some reason and voila! My wallet.

Two is one and one is none. So I have a few tools in three’s and four’s..,
Well if you’re a mechanic, meaning that’s how you pay your mortgage and feed your family, the pay scale where you work must be phenomenal.

I just buy a new tool it is faster and then I will have a spare when the old one shows up...
Kind of like when you put some thing some where safe so you wont loose it.. You know so even you won't find it later,...

Retired Carpenter. I keep enough tools around to look busy, but when I finally hung up my nail bags some tools were gifted to long time but younger coworkers and my son has the rest.

January I couldn't find my newish insulated leather gloves. Checked lost and found at the stores I had been in. Looked the trucks and garage over numerous times, gave up. Month later it was cold but I needed to set a couple coyote snares, went into the basement before going to the store for a new pair of gloves. Laying on a storage bin, my gloves, how they got there??? Haven't been in the electrical supply bin, since, crap the Christmas lights timer switch died just before New Years.

So one time back in my "bad ol days" I lost track of the TV remote control. I searched all the likely places, two or three times, expanding as I went. Even front porch, back porch, bathroom, window sills-- you name it. Finally got pretty worked up, and thought "SCREW THIS", and decided to sit down, have a beer, and think about it. Went to the fridge to get a beer, and there the remote was, sitting along side the six-pac -- chilling. jd

Looking for stuff is a good hobby and helps keep me busy. Looked for the mole traps 4 times before finding them right where they were supposed to be.
