The 300 H&H

Hello Folks, I'm new here finding my way around. My avid shooting/hunting days are past, but I have Pop's old Win Model 70 300 H&H that I still burn a few through it from the bench. I'm lucky to have a 100yd berm on my country place where I warm up the 300 and my .270 . Winter time I take them to a 30yd local indoor range to keep up practice. Last Wednesday I shot the 300 and put 2 in the same hole and the third cut half that hole. Before someone thinks yes but your on top of the target, thats ok, my right eye is going bad so learning to shoot left handed is a real trick with the 300 and besides, I only weigh 140lbs and am 81 years old.

My son restocked his Rem M721, 300 H&H and turned it into a fine elk rifle. 3 shots into about .550 at 100 yds, consistently. IMR 4350 and 180 gr Nosler Partitions. We love that round.

Keep shootin' Pappy!

I used a 300 H&H for many years, had 3 of them, 2 Model 70's and a Steyr. I shot an eland at about 80 yards with
Winchester 180 grain Silvertip and he just shook like he had a fly bite. A second round an inch away from the first
and he realized something was wrong and soon fell over. Both shots through the heart, big animal (1600 lbs) so
he took a while for the brain to register he was dead! Every other animal shot was one and done.
Ammo at the time was a limiting factory in RSA but the rifles and round were/are great.
Regards,

JDM

I took a Pre 64 M70 300 H&H to Africa in 09' and it killed everything I pointed it at!

Been shooting up the hand loads - 180gr in front of 69grn's of 4831, and ask the indoor range boss to find me something. I bought 40 rounds of HSM. I was not familiar with them at all til I looked them up. Lo n behold, I got 168gr BERGER HPBT hunting VLD. That was what put those 3 holes as they were in my first post, so I love them. When weather breaks around here and I can use my 100yds, I "should" be able to put them close enough to cover with a nickel.

I have a custom Enfield in 300 H&H. With a full rib on a hexagonal barrel, carved stock. Unknown scope on it. I can find no markings on it.. Never shot it. It was made for a man named Paul Blizzard son of Judge Reese Blizzard from WV..

Most of us hope we make it to 81,... let alone shoot a 30cal magnum with 81 year old bones to absorb the recoil !

Thank you. I do cheat some, like the 1in Bone Saver recoil pad plus, I bought a thin leather vest and had the wife sew pockets on the right and left side then I put a Browning "shock' pad in the pocket. As all know, the real trick is to roll back with the recoil too.
