The 22bra Thread

Well I shot both powders today and I’ve never had such poor results across the board. The amount of 2 in 1 hole and 1 flyer is crazy.

8208 over 7 groups averaged a .935 moa. It had the best sd and es spread across all powders of any bullet powder combination I’ve ever shot but the smallest group was .632 and largest being 1.446. It was fast though. velocities from 3365-3560fps. I know there numbers don’t always mean good on paper results but with the sd and es from all charges being under 10 and under 22 with the average being 5.7sd and 13.1 es you’d think id see something better.

Varget was much better but still not what I’d call acceptable for my standards. There was 1 excellent group but with the rest of the results I’m assuming it was a random dispersion that allow for that group. Velocity here ranged 3237fps up to 3451fps. The sd and es on average was higher then 8208 but groups overall averaged better.

I’m not sure weather I try another powder just for experimenting purposes or if I pick the varget and shoot a seating depth test.

I always start at the same spot off the lands but 99% of the bullets I shoot are more “target bullets” and with these being a hunting bullet I’m wondering if they’d like more jump. There is potential with varget and definitely good enough to hunt with. The 8 groups over 2.1grs of powder averaged .657 moa so there is potential.

With the numbers 8208 produced in both es and sd as well as the velocities I was able to get it makes me want to shoot the seating depth test with this combination but I’m doubtful Id be able to shrink groups to where I’d be satisfied. With varget it looks like I’d be able to.

Well I did a seating depth test and I think I need to jump further. So going shoot another few groups from 35 thou-60 thou and see how it goes. They started coming in around .024-.030 but I still know it can do more. Weather it’s with this powder or not. I just don’t want to quit yet as the Es and sd are too good to walk away from.

69gr eld-vt at 3500fps

That is pretty crazy to get that tight of spreads and not shoot tight on paper.
That’s what I thought! And I shot a bunch of 3 shot groups different depths and can’t get it to agree. I finally took it back out today for a bigger seating depth test and got it to shoot good enough for hunting but I can not believe how poorly as a whole this thing shoots when the numbers are that incredible.

Here’s an example of majority of the groups while the numbers are telling me the opposite.

Now here is some of the success from today

To me this isn’t br accuracy and that’s what’s bothering me about it. For hunting both these will be more then enough but I cant accept it lol.

I had 12 pieces of brass left in this lot that needed firing. So I loaded up 3 of my original 85.5 load and shot in the low 2’s, and loaded up 3 at 31.6, 31.8 and 32gr’s of n140 which i haven’t shot yet with this bullet. conditions were miserable with the winds today but it was 23 degree’s C where the past few weeks have been in the negatives so had to get out and enjoy the warm temps. 32gr’s gave me 3492fps with sd of 2.0 and Ed of 4.8 and a group at .380moa which is more like it. As much as I don’t want to stop with 8208 due to the amount I have and numbers that are excellent but I’ll most likely get more n140 and verify with it.
