The 22bra Thread

I wish our coyote population would come back.... it's getting better, but slowly..was told the rabbits had hemorrhagic fever....haven't seen rabbits for 2 years ! rsbhunter
You can come out and get all of ours here in Indiana. I appreciate how adaptable they are, and I appreciate the function the serve in the food chain, but I can't personally stand them.

After seeing what my Dad's 22BR will do, I'm thinking a 22BRA would be awesome shooting prairie dogs. I've chatted a little with @urbanrifleman about a barrel. Thinking about putting a 22BRA together with one of his barrels on a Kauger VPR and shooting 53gr vmax and the new 62gr eld vt. Would be interested in hearing from guys who have shot these bullets especially what powders were used.

We shot the 62 eldvt on the pdog hunt in Colorado. 3475 FPS. Tiny groups. Super high hit percentage. 29 grains of lt32.

No down side.

I got another Kauger CRS and I put together a new rifle. I decided to revisit the 22bra in my 7 twist Wilson.

Finally after months and months of getting married, moving, and the holidays I got to go shoot it.

The day we picked was awful. It was cold and the wind was blowing 15 mph from 2 o'clock.

Normally I shoot my Tubb bullets but the 22br brass I got in a trade that I was going to fireform (unknown to me until later) had the shoulder pushed back 6 thou and would not go off. So, NO BREAK IN. Just got on target with a few shots and started shooting groups.

I was shooting 90 SMK that I bought from Rocky Mountain Reloading. 20 jump from lands. Ts15.5 starting 31 grains on the left.

It shot shockingly well for the horrible winds. And no break in at all. I was working my butt off watching the wind. It wants to shoot right at 3030 fps ish plus or minus 30 fps.

It did not like the extra speed and the 7 twist. Makes sense. Even at 3000 the bullet is 300k spin. But if a person likes 3030 fps ish and full BC, this 7 twist is money.

More to come.

I shot the General Patton yesterday with the 22bra 7 twist. I was shooting 22br brass I got in trade with 88 ELDM jammed probably 40 thou (the only way they will go off because these shoulders were way pushed back).

29.5 Varget super mega jammed. Just absolutely impressive. Last group I shot was probably about a .1. 2990 fps with single digit spreads.

Just a joy to shoot.

Got to fire form a couple more rounds today. My 22bra from urbanrifleman shoots my fire form loads under 1/2” groups. 75gr amax with imr4166. I figured I’d just hunt with them.
So far the IMR4166 works pretty good in this round. Which is great b/c I had a spare 8lb jug sitting around.
