the 221 fireball strikes again

well I got my first coyote in MN tonight. I was sitting around the house board, so with a bright moon out I decided to go coyote hunting, which this was also my first experience at night.

I went out to a farmers field about 8 miles away parked, feeling kinda lazy I only walked a hundred yards or so, I hid in the shadow of a small pine tree and waited a few minutes then I started with a howl. I heard nothing back so I switched to a rabbit distress. a few minutes later I heard some kildeer making some noise and then some deer took off running thinking that a yote might be coming I got ready. I saw a something running about 50 yards out, I looked through my scope and I couldn't beleive it, it was a coyote! I gave a little whistle it stop and I got it!

Great story. I recently purchased an LVSF (n.i.b.!) in .221 to go with my Cooper in that cal. Haven't shot a 'yote with either yet (mostly groundhogs) but nice to know the "furball" will do the job if necessary. Love that round.

I have the LVSF too and what a shooter. My rifle likes Sierra 40 gr BK with RL-7 powder and CCI BR 4's. I have only shot groundhogs with it so far. It's a great little carry rifle. :)

Yeah, I love my 221 and the LVSF! I think it's a great carry rifle too. If I came across another one I would probably by it. I would like to get a heavy barrel model some day too.

sako-

what kind of velocities are you getting with RL-7 and how are the groups?

Two weeks ago went out to check on some prairie dog towns . Took along a 221 Fireball rifle loaded with 40 Gr V-Max bullets pushed by Re 7 powder. Shot eleven p dogs while driving around . Its a fine cartridge but I use the 17 HMR, 17 Fireball, and 204 Ruger rifles more when I plan on spending a longer time in a p dog town.

Boltman223: If there's no pic posted, did it really happen? ::)

Just funnin' with you, but you KNOW we love photos...
