The 20VT is everything you guys said it would be...Awesome!

I finally received my Pac-Nor barrel and thought it would be awhile getting to shoot my rifle as there is bedding to do and making sure all ammo would fit the chamber etc. I must say that this little round is one of the most accurate I've owned and all you guys said it would be. I shot a .3 six shot group at 100 yards then shot a .6 group at 200 yards today. I tried RL-7 and H-4198...18.0 grains in either powder seemed to create itty-bitty groups. ;D As has been said...no recoil at about any power setting on scope will allow all hits to be seen.
Thanks to all you 20VT shooters for the info and encouragement on this awesome round. ;D I think the sage rats are going to be in BIG trouble this next year... ;D

Just waiting for my .20-221AI go gauge to finish up a project......

Can`t wait.....sooooo glad Lapua gave us something good to work with... 8)

Thats Awesome. The 20 Vartarg is a bad influence. You want hardly ever touch your other rifles now. Its performance is amazing. Small powder charge and bughole accuracy with little recoil is what sold me on this cartridge. 400yds isnt out of the question either. I love the 20 Vartarg small in size but Big in performance. I want be without a 20 Vartarg ever!!! The Sage rats are not safe at all!!!!

When you get it going I would sure be interested in the velocity...sounds like it will be a screamer! ;D

I must tell ya Hillbilly...you were one of the bad influences on wanting the 20VT....Thank you man!!! ;D ;D

Pacificman,

I have some AA2200 to try after I get some brass fire formed...

The velocity will fall where the accuracy lives... 8)

Actually I have a single shot action, so I figured why not????, I won`t ever have to worry about it feeding.....

Phil.

Good to hear you are enjoying your new 20 VT. I have a 20 SCC (20-221 AI) and absolutely love it, typically see velocity in the 4,000-4,100 fps area and regular 1/4 to 1/2" groups if i do my part. Its absolute death on Pdogs, good out to 400 + yards.

Pacificman, glad the little VT is working for you as it has for all of us. I love my Cooper 20VT and use it so much on sage rats, I'm pondering selling one of my 204's (Sako M75V), as it just doesn't get shot any more now that the VT is on-line.

Like others have said, once you get a 20VT, your other rifles just don't get shot as much. Same goes for my old primary PD rifle: a full custom Holland-built M700 in 223AI....it may go down the road now too. The 20VT is THAT much fun! :)

Rick...I can see what your saying will probably be the case as this little 20VT is a pleasure to shoot. Gonna be hard to wait almost 6 month's for the sage rats to come back out. ::) I also found out that I was measuring my groups wrong. The .3 I measured was outside to outside of the 6 shots at 100 yards...a friend said to subtract the caliber...(.204). So that means this thing is shooting about in the one's and at 200 yards about a .4. All I know is this little round will be a lot of trouble for the sage rats! As I've heard it's surprising the bench rest shooters don't use this round for competition. ??? ;D
Funny I'm already thinking another 20vt instead of a 20 practical. :o ;D I'm glad I listened to all you guys! ;D

I've only been shooting the 20 VT for about 2 months now and already have the parts for my second gun ordered and am planning my third gun now. This is really bad. Accuracy that rivals the 6PPC, both my friend and I are shooting 1s out of my gun with 32 gr V-Maxs and 18.5 grs Reloder 7. Easy to find loads that shoot, good brass available, next to no recoil and barrel wear that seems non existent. I can't believe this cartridge isn't a factory load. I think it will be soon. In the meantime I'm burning a lot of Reloder 7 and sending hundreds of 32 gr. V-Max's downrange. These are the good old days

Your Welcome. The 20 Vartarg is one of the True Great wildcats that should have already seen a factory chambering.

my 20vt only has a 16 1/4" mgm barrel(tc encore), but oh my, does it shoot!!! i shot one groundhawg at 327 yards and the rest around 200-250 yards(30 or 40 groundhawgs) and every one of them drt. i almost tried to make a 204ruger at 16 1/4", but some guys(http://specialtypistols.infopop.cc/eve/forums) said go with the 20 vartarg. after researching the 20vt, i bought one. 18.7 gr of h4198 with a 32gr nosler varmaggedon puts three shots into .3" at 100 yards. my best goes .201", my dads best with it goes .158". it definilty is AWESOME!!!!!

i'm on 2nd bbl ( 7500 rd) 18.5 gr h4198 34gr hollow points and lc brass in 427 cz i wish i could make it work in an ar . then i would sell my other rifles and buy more bullets and extra barrels.

I just put a 36X Leupold on my 20 Vartarg Dakota and have been shooting a lot of groups in the 1s ever since. I'm really trying to get this rifle in the zeros. I think with custom bullets it will do it.

With my 26 inch barrel and 32 grain v-max my average velocity with 18.0 grains of H-4198 was 3733 fps. With 18.0 grains of RL-7 average velocity was 3653 fps. Seems I can use either powder and get very good accuracy so far. I have used 19.0 grains of RL-7 and up to 18.5 with H-4198 but accuracy suffered so I have settled with the 18.0 grains of either powder at this time. I will probably try some sierra and varmint nightmare bullets too. Love the 20VT. :)

By far my favorite .20 cal round. Hard to improve on it for the powder, recoil and projectile involved.

Splats PDs all over the place. ;D

Phil...I do want to try AA2200 as it sounds like higher velocity with the accuracy can be had from what I have heard. Now I just need to find some to try. :) Yep it's going to be hard to wait till early spring to whack some prairie rats! ;D

Pacificman: My Cooper 20VT thrives on RL-7, gets right at 3,700 fps with bughole accuracy (usually high ones/low two's) and pure death on sage rats now for three full seasons.

However, as RL-7 is getting like looking for chicken lips, I laid in 8 lbs. of A2200. Yes it shoots okay in the VT, but the accuracy is just not as defined as with RL-7, at least in my rifle.

I only shot a one day test protocol with 8 different powder charges with A2200 using my same seating depth (.005" off), but the accuracy results just did not live up to the hype, nor the degree of accuracy that RL-7 displayed. The velocity was great, hovering at 3,800. Could be this one rifle, but I'm just sayin'....... For me at least, A2200 works, but is not the panacea I had hoped for.

The target below shows my control load in the upper left using RL-7 and speaks for itself (32gr NBT/18.5 RL-7). Note the degradation of accuracy when I switched to A2200 at the bottom set of targets. Keep in mind that different bullets were being tested too.

Not science for sure, but shows the distinct difference between the two powders in my 20VT.

(I've had 10 lbs. of RL-7 on backorder at Bruno's now for almost a full year.........)
