The 105 Hybrid Results are In....

Went to the Range this weekend and finally got to try out the long awaited Berger 105 Hybrids. So what do ya think??

To all FWIW....

The barrel I gave Brad was a Krieger and was the 5th of five 6BRX barrels I had. It, a Shilen, and a Broughton all shot the 105 Berger VLD like lasers. This particular barrel shot several 600 cleans at NRA "approved" matches at Oak Ridge with the best day yielding a 600-54 x at 600y. Brad has also shot 600 cleans with it. It also set some records at 1000y in the first year of the reduced targets. With 33.5gr Varget and the Bergers, at 2950 fps it would consistently group sub 1/4 moa at 200y.

I try to steal it back from him every time he comes down but no luck...he keeps a pair of handcuffs on his shooting arm and locks them to his rifle when he sees me walking up.

Its great to note that Brad joined the High Master ranks with this barrel.

I've found best accuracy and ES/SD a little higher with a .015" jump. My best was ~3020 with H4895. The barrel is a 30" Bartlein.

My Viper SS shot <1/8" @ 100 with .015 jump. The combination has shot several cleans at 600 and a 198-9X at 1000 with a switching headwind. I have no complaints about the 105 Hybrid. [br]
To your point: Why jam when it is not necessary?

Exactly, my typical load using the 105Vld Hunting and Match is .030 jump and like Longranger said " It shoots like a laser."

Can't be afraid of a little jump. You never know what you'll get.

Maybe it's just me; velocity looks a little slow for 33+ gr of Varget?

What's your barrel length? Assume this is a BRX?

I thought so too. I'm attributing the slower speeds to a cool day and the Hybrid design until I prove myself wrong. I went back and looked at my old tests and the 105 VLD ,the 108 VLD, and the 107 MK all averaged just over 3000 fps. On earlier posts I noticed others saying they had to bump up their load to achieve the higher velocity using the Hybrids. My barrel is 26". It was 30" new but after getting it used and fit to my gun and then experiencing case head separation and getting it rechambered again, It's now 26". 33.2 Varget and the 105 VLD Hunting bullet gets me right at 3030. I'm not really as concerned about speed as I am about consistency and accuracy. As long as the bullet passes through the target at 1400 fps or more I'm good with it.

Brad just marked it final. The reversal procedure varies depending upon what Excel version you have. Search in the Help (F1) for "Mark As Final" and uncheck. That will return the spreadsheet to editable condition.

Ok guys I see your excellent work on 105 hybrid

Now can I pose this question

There is so little difference between bc (g1 or g7 ) of 105 hybrid and 115 vld

If i have a cartridge that can generate enough speed for either to make 1000

Which bullet would you choose for 1k ?

I had in mind 6mm SLR

John Whidden uses the 105's.. that should tell ya which one, but, Tubb uses the 115's.. John pushes them at something around 3300 and Tubb is around 2950-3K.. Either one works.
