That moment when

Your load is having "issues" and according to log book been 400 rounds since last cleaning! Hope that's the issue. Wow. I am religious about noted and round count log and cleaning log. So might have let it go a little too long :)

You must have been busy with other things. How long did you go without cleaning- days-weeks-years?

I had this happen today, at least it is suspect I believe. It will get cleaned and checked.

Never been more happy to clean my rifle. As I think this barrel is a great one. Shoots great and single digits ES. Easy to tune. I'm hoping Sunday it goes back to hammering

I never go more then 2 targets without cleaning. About 40 shots. I learned a long time ago that once you get hard carbon buildup, it is hard to get it out. Also it seems my gun likes a clean barrel. Usually all it takes to get my zero back and settle it down at 1000 yards, is about 2 to 3 fouler shots. Matt

My individual guns and their respective loads dictate the interval between cleaning. However, I clean every gun at the end of the day's shooting session while the barrel is still warm.....carbon removal is much easier = less patches, solvent(s), and strokes down the barrel.

Have fun getting it clean after all that carbon has built up. Like Matt said not more than 40 rounds between cleanings. You are going to need a good stiff brush and lots of JB bore cleaner. Start by using patches and some Montana Extreme till you get most of the loose stuff, then go with the brush. Take your time and do a good job. Oh do you have a bore scope? that is a must for me. Maybe your carbon ring may be a lot of your problem after all those rounds. This may take some time!

I will shoot a 3 day Palma match and not clean my rifle till back at Home.
I will also JB my bores about every 400 rounds . After all cleaning I treat the Bore with Tetra .
I a have a Fellow shooter that cleans his barrel only if he thinks he has a problem ?

It was a simple overlook. And I could tell took much longer to clean barrel and I could tell from looking at the little bit I could seee

Iosso and ME and carbout. It will get clean. I think barrel didn't like being that fouled. It disn't shoot like a shotgun, the groups just opened up a bit

I clean every time a rifle is shot, whether it's 10 rounds or 100. Barrel life is not affected by proper cleaning. I guess that's why I've never had the issue you described.

Depends on what you want from the rifle. Square range shooters never need to know.

I just started cleaning mine, oh boy..... I was actually doing this to see how far I could go. Mine is a new .243 X-Caliber for prs type shooting. When it changed it was like BAM.... Now I know how I will have to keep up on it. Glad to hear yours is back to normal. Good luck at the shoot Andrew.
