Texas school shooting

Unfortunately this is a very sad commentary on the state of mankind these days. Secure the school and it will move out into the parking lot, secure the parking lot and it will move to a bus, etc, etc. If a deranged person wants to terrorize, maim, and kill there NO is level of security to stop it. This kind of crap did not happen when most of us were growing up, but I am not a sociologist who can diagnose the problems or offer solutions.
Arm the bus drivers, teacher, resource officer and anybody qualified or willing to.. You are not going to change the bat $h!t crazies we are breeding with todays culture.. I would never advocate disarming for the idea of false security.. Kinda leaves protecting our children, gun free zones are clearly target one..

If I new the answer to all this crap I would get a noble prize. I lean more towards the up bringing of children. My folks would whip my ass when needed the teachers all had paddles now days it's so bad if you look sideways at your kid you'll go to jail.
Sorry for the soap box

I agree about the child rearing. Most of the mass shooters grew up in fatherless homes or ones without any real male guidance and I don't have an answer for curing that ill. Having said that, all of the adults in a community have a duty and obligation to protect children. Being lackadaisical in not doing as much as possible in the school system is unacceptable. There are proven school infrastructures, methods and protocols all over this country in districts which COMPETENT school boards and administrators are using. When I can walk in to school with a handgun AND a shotgun, in this day and age, something is seriously wrong with that school district and its overseers. If I were a parent paying taxes there, I'd want all of them fired.

Our county is finally building a second high school to relieve overcrowding. My granddaughter is in elementary school in the oldest school in the county, and will get to go to the newest school just a few years after it opens. With the millions they are spending on the building, a little more for metal detectors at the main entrances, and one way locks with alarms on all the other doors does not sound like much of an expense to me. It might move the violence out to the parking lot as someone said, but if people are going batshit crazy, better out than in.

I wish it was that simple but that is no different than blaming the gun.
This starts at home and unfortunately a decent upbringing isn't something that most kids get now a days. A good beating when your wrong and being taught to have respect aren't part of what happens now.

Can't say it any better than that. Nowadays parents can't discipline their children for fear of the schools calling CYA because they got a bruise on their behind. I was corrected and disciplined as a child. I know respect.

Hog,
I wouldn't know who was Fatherless in these cases but I've seem some single moms due Damn good job of raising kids and some two parent homes have the worst kids." Go figure "
I agree all adults have a responsibility to protect children.
I don't know what's going on with the school board but I do know anybody can walk into Walmart a movie theater, or a mall and shoot up the place it's not just schools , hell we won't hardly leave the house anymore unless we got a plan.

I feel sad for all the good people and friends and families of the victims when this sort of thing happens. Being a school scenario, it really puts a different bent on things. With some kids they say give 'em space and hopefully counseling, but then this kind of thing happens.

Is there anyway that electromagnets can be utilized for additional security at entrances?
If you deal with electromagnets depending on the power , than you have to consider any medical device a student or faculty maybe may have, or your credit cards....

With the advent of smartphones, it's been studied and said that today's young people lack social skills. Back in the day, we had the "weirdos", the "nerds", the "quiet ones" and the "crazies". We didn't have school shootings. Why? We had social skills and even those aforementioned types had friends and people to hang out with. Today, they're ostracized, ridiculed, bullied and basically ignored. I think this sets the stage for the mass shootings in today's schools. As far as violent video games having an effect, well maybe. Us boomers used to watch violent Westerns like The Rifleman, Wanted Dead or Alive, prime time detective shows, cartoons where people and animals fell of cliffs and got shot, and Three Stooges. Don't remember anyone blaming them for mass shootings. Then again, we didn't have any.

I sure don't have answers, but I am observant. Kids nowadays are under WAY more pressure and scrutiny from peers because of social media's reach. Sure we had bullies growing up, but everything was contained within our own classroom, school or neighborhood. Now when something is posted or seen on social media the potential to reach hundreds, even thousands of people is very much a reality. Our modern age is not kind to those individuals whose coping mechanisms are immature or non-existant. Not an excuse for any of these acts, just an observation. Good parenting (or lack there of) I believe play an incredibly important roll in how kids react. God help us if this new generation fails to handle the problems society throws at ALL of us at one time or another.

From a former speech writer for George W. Bush, published today: “It’s the GUNS!!” (Caps are mine....)

If the guns are the problem, then statistically one would only need to remove a tiny portion of those guns to stop this issue. If millions of guns exist, and only a couple hundred (exaggeration) are used in mass shootings, then a tiny percentage are at fault. So I suggest we take away guns from those who do this kind of stuff, and then hang them. (And then chop up that gun)

If the guns are the problem....

But WE know they’re NOT the problem, it’s the malcontents that gain access to them... don’t we?

How do we go about changing the minds of those who DON’T know, or choose NOT to know, it’s not the otherwise inanimate object that causes the sorrow and suffering, it’s the individual who seeks to gain something by depriving others.

I think what I was trying to point out is that math runs both ways. If millions of guns exist, and only a few are mis-used, then math says the few problems should be the focus...

And once that little basic logic hits home, the reality that millions of people exist, but only a few act like this killer, why shouldn't we focus on the few? And punish them, not "fix" them, or excuse them, while blaming me and you?

So agreed, we know this.

But the same people who can't remember the fact that the holocaust killed 6 million Jews (less than 50 % of millenials polled even know what the Holocaust is) are the ones that are so poorly informed and so removed from the reality of the ORIGIN of evil that they cannot even name it. So they blame gun ownership and pile on, saying only 30 percent of US citizens own guns in America, alluding to a rule by sheer numbers.
(So, if 51% did, would that mean that the 49% could be told to buy one?)
We have forgotten that we set up a government that is a republic, not a majority democracy, and we are obligated to consider the RIGHTS of the minority.

The logic of that speech writer fails on so many levels.

So we are clearly a sick society, and I propose that the only way to heal is to repent and confess our God hating, rebellious self centered ways and ask Him to forgive us and heal us.

again, you can snap em, you can shake em....but the light still wont come on!!!
Right now the "Rosie O'Donnell's" of the world are boiling mad and just cannot get a grip on the fact that we law abiding citizens are not in line to turn in and have all our guns destroyed. Yeah, that'll fix it, have all the law abiding folks get rid of every last gun they own and when only criminals have them then nobody will ever get hurt again.

This kind of BS didn't happen when the video games played were like pong, and Junior wasn't allow to spend most of his adolescence playing video games where characters run through video games killing people non stop for hours on end and certain segments of society believe that this has no bearing on juniors mind set. the snowflake mentality and the lack of real thought (not group thought ) is destroying American society. boil that asshole in oil on TV lets see if we cant make them think a little bit before they attempt this kind of crap, punishment is a deterrent
