The barrel material arrived for a test that has been in the works for some time now. It will be deep hole drilled, reamed and rifled by a company that does work for the US Government. That company wishes to remain anonymous.

The barrel will end up being 12” in diameter and 84” long. It will weigh 2,620 pounds and will rest on a custom bench. The reason for the extreme weight is to eliminate any chance of movement from recoil. Construction on the bench is already under way and it has three legs. The rear leg will be hydraulically adjustable for both windage and elevation. The two front legs will pivot in tracks allowing windage movement. The scope is conventional however it will be mounted in rings that are part of the bench itself. The trigger, although conventional as well, will be pneumatically operated. A unique reverse taper breech will bring the barrel down to the proper tenon size for the one of a kind action. The proprietary cartridge is .416 caliber but the case itself is not based on an existing case. At this time, I can’t disclose other details about the cartridge except for the estimated velocity which should exceed 4,080 fps.

I look forward to to posting photos of the bench and results of this test as we proceed.

Dave.
