Testing .22 LR factory ammo

I bought a bunch of 22LR for my Rugger MKlV to Pistol best am I supposed to go with 5 shot groups

When I am testing in my rifles, I normally shoot five 5 shot groups to compare with other ammos.

4 groups of 5 shots each when testing low cost ammo @ 50 yards, with wind flags. (CCI standard veloxity)

When changing brands/lots, fire 10 fouling shots, before groups.

Different lubes on bullets may not play nice wirh each other.

Ammo thats 50 cents a shot, dont know?

If you are shooting expensive ammunition you can't afford not to clean before changing brands. If you are serious enough to pay the bucks for the good stuff you are serious enough to clean the old stuff out and see what the ammo actually does instead of half assing it. Lots of the same brand or ammo... Maybe shoot 5 before you start really looking at what is happening with the particular lot.

I believe the OP is shooting a Ruger MKIV pistol.

When I shot bullseye I tested my Ruger MK 22/45 and Marvel topped 1911s in a ransom rest. Just about every Standard Velocity ammo held ten ring at 50 yards for 10 shots. In bullseye, I found reliability was most important so as not to have to shoot alibis in timed and rapid fire.

CCI SV was the cleanest and most lots, not all, were reliable.

Eley Target also plenty accurate and reliable but not as clean burning as CCI.

Aguila while cheap was neither clean or reliable.

Remington SV ammo was crap and don’t ever shoot Thunderbolts……..

Higher end ammo from Eley or Lapua was not needed.

Yup that’s exactly what I have and trying to do but woth not as a nice rest as your ransom rest at about 16 ft . Im new to bullseye competition shooting .

It’d be difficult to evaluate ammo at 16ft. Stretch it to 50 ft (like indoor matches)
Practice slow fire while shooting the ammo you have in 5 or 10 shot groups.

Oops, i was thinking rifle.

Ammo should place 10 shots into the10 ring @ 50 yards, from a rest. 10 ring 3.36 inch. 22lr or 45ac
