I use BAT direct one piece mounts for most of my rifles. Because of this, almost all the scopes I test are removed from their rings and placed into BAT rings on the F&C scope tester. Once it's mounted there is a good bit of windage and elevation adjustment required to get it to co-witness with the frozen scope.
Boyd Allen discussed an adjustment process I will try (if I remember) next time I test scopes that is similar to what you mention
