Testing the new Berger 155.5 grain 308 bullets
The weight range of the 100 bullets was 155.52 to 155.72 grains and 96 of them
Were between 155.58 to 155.68 grains.
The base to ojive range was +/_ 0.001†as measured where the ojive touches the lands in my barrel.
Loaded OAL for a 0.020†jump was 2.940â€
Test Rifle:
Quadlite action, Robertson stock, Scope NF BR 12 – 42X
Krieger barrel 298/3075 - 30†- 1:13.5 twist
The 100 yard testing using a Sierra Palma load as a reference:
Sierra 155, points closed ) Win case, 47.5 gr. Of Varget has a MV of 3029 fps, group size = 0.509â€
I do double five shot groups…………
B155.5 Lapua case 46.5 gr. Varget MV= 3020, group size = 0.429â€
B155.5 Lapua case 46.5 gr. Varget MV= 3017, group size = 0.337â€
B155.5 Lapua case 47.0 gr. Varget MV= 3028, group size = 0.366â€
B155.5 Lapua case 47.0 gr. Varget MV= 3031, group size = 0.323â€
1000 yard testing at Sacramento 03-10-2008 08:00 temp=59 degrees, humidity = 59%
Shooting 5 sighters and 2 – 5 shot groups and cleaning between changes of bullets.
Sierra 155, points closed ) Win case, 47.5 gr. Of Varget, scope elev. 4-0.00 group = 6.494 and 10.075â€
B155.5 Lapua case 46.5 gr. Varget, scope elev. 3-3.75, groups = 6.563, 7.539 and 5.395â€
My elevation is about the same as Dunia found -- The new Bergers need three minutes less elevation at 1K.
Very consistent bullet NO sorting needed with the 100 I looked at.
I think they may shoot better than the groups I shot this morning. We have a lot of shooters at the range with all of our March matches. I could not take the time I normally do for the testing. I would have liked to test at a lower and a high MV to see what happens.
The bullet is a winner!
