600 yd Berger Test results

Well my test results shows the 107's actually shooot better in my rifle over the 108.

I began shooting this evening at 7:00 pm and shot up till I could barely see the orange on the targets.

I also had a brain fade and didn't even load any fowler ammo as being so concious of having enough to shoot a registered match with so I have one target I had to waste a rnd for a fowler.

This one target has a 4 shot group of .980 the stats are as follows:

107 BT .263 Bushing 33.2 grns varget .980 square group
107 BT .263 Bushing 33.4 grns varget 2.178 Verticle group
107 BT .262 Bushing 33.2 grns Varget 1.587 Square group
107 BT .262 Bushing 33.4 grns Varget 3.178 Verticle group

108 BT .263 Bushing 33.2 grns Varget 3.221 diagonal group
108 Bt .263 Bushing 33.4 grns Varget 3.701 Verticle group
108 Bt .262 Bushing 33.2 grns varget 2.645 horizontal group
108 BT .262 Bushing 33.4 grns Varget 2.237 Verticle group

Temp 90 deg Humidity 84%
OAL with Sp gage 1.834
Lawton dual port action Krieger 8.5 twist x28" barrel Shehane Stock Smithed by Mike Bryant.
Case Lapua chamber 6 Dasher .268 nk Primer CCI 450

I'll go back and test the 105 and see how they shoot at 600 yds this week. I ran out of day light this evening. I'll let Michelle and eric know as well I have or need a day this week to give them honest results on the 105 at 600 yds.

Hey there James. I'm just now starting to get really interested in 600yd shooting. Thus my interest in your post and especially the caliber. Dasher. Chamber size, bushing size, ect.

If you or someone else would real quickly and "simply" explain to me the large difference between your .262, and .263 bushings and your .268 chamber?? My little brain says, "it has to do with what he's turning his necks to"..

I guess I'm thinking .xx amount of tension, and .xx of clearance, and I just want to understand what you're doing.
Thanks tootalloutdoors

The .268 listed is the chamber dia for the neck, My loaded rnd is a .2665 In most cases the .263 bushing works for me this gives me about 55 lbs grip. The .262 bushing gives me 80 lbs grip. Sometimes when a laod shows verticle yes yields a nice ES and SD you can remove this by using a neck bushing .001 tighter
The measurements given or actual dia of the bushings themselves. Using a tighter bushing won't give more clearance in the chamber it just gives more grip to the bullet.

If you have more questions feel free to ask.

James,

Thanks for the test results!!!! Good of you to post/share them!!!.
Please let us know how they compare with the VLD's when you test them.

What is the estimated BC to the 107 & 108....????

Happy Shooting
Donovan Moran

Donovan,

I hadn't ran them to see but it's the low .500 mark What I'll do on Saturdays match is I'll load one VLD and during sight in period once I get my "0" I'll sling one down range and measure the difference in impact and then we can calculate from there as I'm shooting both at the same velocity.

The other 105 I have to test is the BT they sent me. Man I needed more time to get it all done in this heat is rough on barrel cooling.

Yes the groups shot on Saturday evening was tested at 600 yds. I'll test the 105 this week at 600 also and then run the best 2 of the 3 in a 600 yd match.

Danny,
Thanks for pointing that out I'm behind. I had talked to James on the phone and I thought he said 300yds. The subject line yes
I thought I was in a different post. I seem to miss more and more as the years go by. DUH!
