if you have the setup longer is better, but I shoot out my upstairs window in my reloading room 100yds, wish I had a 1000 yds out my window with cameras and someone puttin up targets and calling wind, but I do 100 and it's worked for me, long as I'm not Mr Shaky that day, I like Mr Calm, the curious case of MR Calm & Mr Shaky

No doubt, every day is not good for load development. Some days you just need to turn around, go home, and weigh primers,lol.

So just wondering what distance you guys test at if your range always has wind and your wind reading skills suck ! Lol

For? Loads or testing a new scope?
Closer at first you take most of the wind out of the equation. Then mover out further.
No harm in starting closer and moving out. Starting too far out and all your closer shots could be off since you have zeroed everything to wind you totally misread. Ideally you get the gun set up with ZERO wind, but that is wishful thinking.
