Terrible Barrel Shipping packaging!

Ordered a Marlin barrel that came in today. About 4" of it was sticking out of the end of the box. It was a 22x10x4" box, that it looks like the barrel was stuck in diagonally with minimal packing.

Luckily, the barrel looks to be undamaged. At least it was the muzzle end sticking out and not the breech end.

I received a rifle a while back that was sticking out of the cardboard like a scabbard. It's a miracle it even made it here.

I once ordered a M1 op rod from Numrich. I was suitably impressed with the pack job on the op rod. It was wrapped in plastic and taped to a thin pine board with extra length at either end. Now the lower sling loop that looked like it was on the Arizona until the week before the shipped it to me was another matter. It was so rusted you couldn’t make out threads for the butt plate screw.

Midway shipped 3 34" Green Mt barrels before I got one. Same poor packaging. That was years ago.
Midway shipped me 3 one piece cleaning rods. Every single one looked like a recurve bow when I got them. Finally gave up and ordered from another supplier. They put it in a heavy-wall cardboard tube. Arrived unmolested the first try.
Ignorance - doing something once because you know no better.
Stupidity - doing the same thing over and over again, expecting the outcome to change.

Yeah, Midway shipped me three scopes in an 18"x18"x 24" box one time without ANY packing. Scopes were just bouncing around in the box. Luckily, they came thru OK

I once had a high-grade Holland and Holland double rifle shipped in a cardboard box with no packing. This was back when Greyhound was the go to for a lot of shipping. It had some scratches from the staples in the box but wasn't too badly hurt.
Amazon generally packs things very well. A good thing since I've seen their drivers literally kick a parcel across the yard (not my parcel, not my yard). WH

I sold a rifle to a guy in Pennsylvania several years ago. I paid an FFL to properly pack and ship the rifle. It arrived sticking out of the box and the sights were bent. It was just stuck in a box with a few sheets of paper for padding. I screwed up by not packing it myself and removing the sights. The FFL and the buyer were supposed to settle things between themselves. I felt bad for the buyer and really pissed at the FFL. Haven't been in that shop since. So I feel your pain Rockhound.

I can sort of see a non gun person thinking "hey this is a big piece of steel, nothing can hurt it" but anyone who has any firearm knowledge should know better. The tiniest knick in the wrong place can ruin it.

Here is a 3 foot long 1/2" aluminum angle I received from a company in CA. Didn't make the trip to PA. very well.

For packing, they're infamous for using small "air" pillows that are strung together like sausages.

No chance of those popping, and leaving your items bouncing around like inside the box, like a BB in boxcar!

Received a blank from B/Central, luckily they had put a mesh sleeve on it but not caps on the ends and its a blank but the tube was snapped off allowing the barrel to ride the concrete when the shipper dropped it off.

We shipped a lot of stuff in 3', 4x4 boxes, mostly wood products. Packed well and 99% got through ok. Our stuff wasn't that much money but we wanted it to get there in decent shape. I don't understand how suppliers can screw that up so completely. Do they have no pride at all in their products or is management so profit crazy they don't care?

I stopped buying from Midway soon after Larry showcased their big, new shipping department.
