Tech amber 204 Ruger to 20 practical

I have a Remington 700 sps varmint in 204 Ruger and I was wondering how much trouble it would be to rechamber to 20 practical? I’m guessing just set back the barrel and rechamber?

Agree with Greg.

Just an opinion, not a law of physics...
If you were ever going to do this, it would be very early in the life of the bbl in like new condition.

When a bbl gets some use, the area right where the reamer has to do the critical work has been affected. An experienced gunsmith already knows he had to be careful setting back a used bbl and he will take a look in there before he/she agrees to it.

It can and has been done, you just have to be careful if the bbl has had lots of use. The steel gets altered when compared to virgin material and creates a risk of proper finish and is harder on the reamer not to mention the gunsmith. YMMV

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I've had custom barrels set back for a fresh throat, but I don't think I would bother with a factory barrel. In fact, the last one I did was a 20P - unscrewed a near new 204 and screwed on a Lilja. Somewhere around $300 for a good blank is soon forgotten when the rifle shoots better than factory.

Just a quick look at both prints, probably need to take off .250 or more which would necessitate picking up the threads. My .02, waste of money, time and maybe a sharp reamer.

You can do it that way, but much better, if you want a fine 20 practical, would be to re-barrel with a 20 practical chamber and have it in a barrel that is 1/11 twist, for much better accuracy in that caliber.

Completely agree, if you have a factory 12tw barrel get yourself a good quality custom barrel in 11tw and have the chambered up you'll be happy you did.
