Tax

Filled out my taxes fed. was fine but Pa. wants to know if you buy anything out of state and you didn't pay the Pa. sales tax. Now you get ripped off on shipping and have to pay sales tax too. I was going to say no but the tax person said you better think about that. Here we go again, bend over........jim

I have a friend that was buying tobacco from the east coast for cheap and rolling his own cigarettes. He was gloating over not paying both the tobacco and sales taxes until he got a +$900 notice from the CA tax collector (State Board of Equalization) for both.

Not sure how they caught him but they did.

In general, whatever you would have paid in state Sales Tax that you avoid by getting it shipped from out of state you theoretically owe as Use Tax. And the other taxes, too.

This has been the norm in New York for the past 8 years, you can't leave the amount blank or use "0".

Fairly soon, even sooner if you know who gets re-elected, they will get a system in place and charge one flate rate for all internet and out of State purchases so the Fed's and States will make out.

why couldn't you put a zero there? I am sure there are tons of folks out there that don't buy stuff online out of state. who's to say you didn't pay that state's sale tax? I guess you have to pay double taxes???? what happen's when you travel out of state for vacation???

I'd bet the number of people who have never ordered anything is really low, anything from QVC, or Home Shopping Ch., again any item bought outside the State for use in it.

It's not really a "new" law or thing, it's been around since the Tax Codes were written, just started inforcing it.

If I buy a car/truck/boat/ski-doo/4-wheeler in Vermont or Tax Free New Hampshire and bring it home the State will collect the New York State Sales Tax on it when I register it at DMV. If I paid Sales Tax where I bought it, the State still collects and I have to file to get it back at the end of the year.

Way back when we bought cars/trucks/ski-doos in Canada cause our money was so good they had a form for such a purchase at the dealers that they filled out for the DMV and you only paid when you Registered it at home.

i think they will think of something i am in favor of a fair amount of taxes and certainly pay plenty but im sort of tired of buying high priced call girls& good times for already rich politicians where most of our people came from you could go to jail for not paying thier set amount of taxes or go to australia get your head chopped off or go to the new land just a thought on which crook to vote for this yr. regards shooter63

The tax person warned not put a zero in the box if i did any amount of out of state buying. Pay the small amount the state has set and forget it.If you put 0 and they check you will be in a world of $hit ......jim

Yea, I got my introduction to this new tax BS when the wife and I visited our tax man today.

I live in PA and there is now a line item on the State Income Tax form for a "Use Tax" which means you have to account for sales taxes on taxable items purchased outside the state.
My MIdway, Sinclair, and Dewey purchases just got 6% more expensive. Just what I wanted, more tax BS to keep track of.

The beat goes on!!!!

"Heaven is a place where there is no government"

You may not like it (I sure don't ) but States (some already do) and don't be too suprised if the Feds don't start pushing INTERNET sales as a way to raise revenue rather than have the Governor or the Feds say they "HAD" to raise your taxes to get their funding.

That reg was on the PA books for years, but never enforced. They announced the additional line would be inserted this past October. So who remembers what purchases for 10 months past were not taxed? When my taxes were done, the man asked me what I purchased online in 2011. I said some e-bay stuff. He said "No, how about Amazon"? Told him I could not remember and he put down "O".
Just this week, I ordered a scope from Amazon. It was shipped from a PA address, and no sales tax was charged.

Here in the UK we have a special tax collectors department (known as the Men In Black) that after my death will come after me in the spirit world to hound me for eternity to get any tax that I may have 'forgot' and stick red hot pokers in various orifii to their delight and my pain.
But if I was a politician (who also happen to be lawyers/barristers) I could get away with tax murder and evade paying tax on virtually anything as they have done here, but also claiming for 'expenses'. A famous case was that of a politician claiming for 'work' done a moat around his home and also a new dovecote for the lovely white doves that happen to visit his home/castle. Priceless!!!!!

Dennis H The way things are going the Feds will impose a INTERSTATE/INTERNET tax to REAP the profits from this media. Ya I know conspirisey ......
