Tasco 36x44

Got one too...they can usually be had for around $125 in good shape. As an inexpensive scope they are pretty decent. A side by side comparison with a more expensive scope will no doubt reveal quite a difference in clarity. I can tell you that the eye relief is extremely specific or as my buddies say "tediously frustrating". Good luck, Peter.

Agreed, I picked one up @ a gun show, in the box, w/ sunshade & caps, 95% condition. As Peter says, the eye relif is critical; but, the adjustments are precise, and the clarity and sharpness is very, very good considering it was intended as a "budget priced" target scope.

I think that scope was made by HAKKO, Japan's # 2 optic firm.
It stood up to .308 loads just fine.
Eye placement IS critical, but other then that, a fine scope for ther $$.

I am looking for a 36x scope what will get limited use, so, price is an option.
How do you tell which 36x Tasco is the good one? When you say "critical eye relief" do you mean length or just getting your eye lined up with the scope?
I have thought about the Barska Benchmark Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 40x 50mm, but pretty well decided against it.
Sightron gave me excellent customer service.
Weaver has a great reputation.

I can try to field some of your questions.
Q: "How do you tell which 36x Tasco is the good one?"
A: The Tasco scopes that we have been discussing on this thread can be identified by looking on the eyepiece where it will have black printing that should read something like "TS36X44 Made in Japan AO-05 02". 90 degrees opposite this printing the name "tasco" is printed in lower case in white. The objective has "36x44" stamped 3 times around its circumference. I think the key things to look for are the terminiology World Class, made in Japan and a fixed power of either 24x or 36x. It may be hard to see the "TS36X44 Made in Japan AO-05 02" at first because it is black printing on a black scope. They also have screw on lens caps, a 5" sunshade,originally), and semi target turrets with 1/8" adjustments.

A: Yes, I mean the alignment of your eye ball and head with the scope. If your face is floating above the buttstock it will be extremely tedious to obtain a picture. If you shoot prone at all it can be even harder. It takes patience and this could be the case with most 36x scopes. For me I have to rest my face on the stock.

A: Sometimes by writing things down I tend to answer my own questions. I too have had very good service from Sightron. I would buy another scope from them.

A: I have been tempted in this direction as well. My quandry, like yours is that I have received great support from Sightron and Weaver has had a rough history of support although it has been bought back by ATK. I am not sure what this means for the consumer.

A: I dunno...I have a Sightron SII 24x, Tasco WC 24x, and a Tasco 36x and have never done a side by side test on the range at the same moment.
I think the Sightrons are a big step up from the Tasco WC. Now there are the Big Sky series that are reportedly better yet,although more expensive). Obviously I like the Tasco's, I have two, but if you want to get serious get the Sightron or if your a gambler try the Weaver. Lots of people like them as well. Keep us posted how things work out.

Yes, The discontinued B&L 36X. It is is everything a Leupold is...and perhaps a bit more in some ways.
The B&L 36X was made by Light Optical Works, Japan's best optics firm. They now make the Weaver 36X.

As it turns out, my scope is a Tasco World Class Plus 36x50, and was made in Japan. I bought it new, as in still wrapped in plastic in it's box. It've got it mounted in hand-lapped Burris Signature rings and will be taking it out tomorrow morning to see how it is at 50 yards with my .22. I'll probably try to focus the eyepeice to get a sharper image and will definitely "shoot a box" to check the windage and elevation adjustments, as well as some simple group shooting.
Prior to this, the highest magnification scope I've used is a 14x, so a 36x will be an experience. I can say though... right away I can tell it does have a very specific eye relief.

Again, for the $$ the Tasco is a fine scope.
