Target sight conversion on lefty cz452??

Hi guys.

Call me crazy, but I'm looking into converting a lefty 452 for olympic target sights. It has a sporter barrel and I'm having a hard time finding bloop tube or clamp on mount for a front sight that would fit it. Also, I'm not really sure what sights would fit on the scope mount. Also, I don't know if it's even worth attempting the conversion. A local gunsmith said he can drill the barrel for a front sight for $25, but I don't know if I want to go that far. Thanks for any criticism for or against what I'm trying to do.

Most bloop tubes are made for larger diameter (and parallel) target barrels. Uptagrafft and Statik quote a 0.8in/20mm minimum. A tapered barrel might also be tricky with the clamp; full-bore/Palma barrels, which have a foresight band, are typically turned down to a .75in parallel section at the muzzle.

Not sure what the weight of the tube+collar would do to the barrel tune. My 6in aluminium tube is 6oz w/o the clamp, so about 9oz+ all in (with foresight tunnel). Carbon-fibre tubes are lighter, but pricier.

If the receiver dovetail is the standard Euro 11mm, Anschutz type sights will fit. You may have some issues with clearance for the bolt handle, depending on the height of the sightline, if the throw is 90° not the 60° common to Euro match rifles.

It's a tapered barrel. Looks like i don't have many options with out getting the barrel drilled. A member on here makes threaded bloop tubes. Im thinking of threading the barrel and getting a short bloop tube and having the machinist drill and tap the bloop in the correct spot. Also, I was looking at Gehmann rear sight. It's compact and from what I read it'll fit with the CZ bolts.

That's pretty thin to be drilling at the muzzle. It's barely wide enough to thread for a suppressor shoulder.

Perhaps that's why on their Lux they weld the front sight on...Tom

If you decide to thread the end of the barrel, use a 1/2-28 thread. That will also fit a brake, flash suppressor, or can. Might even add value to the rifle. It would be simple then to make an adapter to screw on to mount a target front site.

I think that you will have issues with the barrel taper - and getting the front sight level with the rear. ie. parallel to the bore

I would be very wary of a threaded bloop tube for mounting a foresight. Can you be sure that the foresight will be vertical when the tube is tight, and that it goes back in the same spot each time? Remember bloop tubes should be cleaned frequently; a tubed muzzle accumulates much more fouling than a bare muzzle. If the foresight is not vertical, or does not return to zero, you may use a lot of your windage adjustment just in zeroing, or might not have enough adjustment yo zero at all.

I have a buddy with a threaded on bloop tube. It's less than ideal. It comes loose from time to time, mimicking positional issues, among other things.

Thank you. Bloop tubes have been around for 30-35 years, and I think it's telling that factory and commercially-made tubes either use a split clamp or grub screws with a peg or locating ring.
