target cam

Awhile back there were a few articles/posts on target cams for long range shooting. Search is not producing much. Anyone remember who was selling or making these?

I think you could probably make a pretty good target cam using the new DropCam HD cameras ($149), a cheap router ($50) and a hi-gain antenna ($50). It wouldn't be as flexible (or as expensive!) as a PTZ network security camera, but I bet it would work pretty well.

I can't say I know anything about it but I know Creedmoor Sports has a target camera setup for about $450 but you supply the computer or maybe even use your phone by now. If I remember it was good for up to 1000 yards.

Would an I-phone, in a cradle and an iPad with wi-fi work using the FaceTime app? I am not a computer geek but just thinking outside of the box!

I can use an iPad, iPhone, Android device, Kindle, etc... with my setup. If it has a web browser, it will work.

To answer your specific question, I do not believe using the built-in camera and then trying to use FaceTime (or some other video chat app) would work since the built-in camera would not have enough resolution. You'd have to put it pretty close which would put it in the danger zone to get shot, IMO.

I was also thinking that a GoPro with wifi and a smart phone how would the resolution be? Last month I couldn'see bullet holes at 300 yards and it sure would have been a plus to be able to see so I could have made corrections.

The Bullseye target cam I mentioned before will show you where your last shot went even when the target gets crowded plus keep all of the data for analysis. Their ad says it's waterproof as well so you don't have to worry about your ipad or other electronics getting wet.

That's great if your working, and have $549.00 to spend, what I am looking for is away to utilize stuff that I have. This is one of things you deal with when your retired and on a fixed income!
