Target Cam For ELD?

Hi Guys,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I'm looking to see if anyone knows
of a target camera setup that will transmit out to 2400 yds.

Out here in the So. NV desert, we can stretch out as far as our rifles will
shoot. Last week we were at 2000yds. I had 5 hits. ;D

Anyway, it's really pushing the limits of my spotting scope at that distance
so I wanted to see what systems were out there that would work that far.

If anyone has any suggestions on who may have something like this, please
let me know.

Thanks.

You could probably get one of the 2.4 GHz with 2 or 3 Watt video transmitter and receiver units on Ebay and use high gain antennas like Yagi's on both ends. You can search on ebay for 2.4 GHz Yagi antenna.

You need to make sure the antennae come off the the transmitter and receiver and also match the connectors up so you do not need to do any soldering.

When setting up point the Yagi's at one another and in the desert you should be ok, although I can make no guarantees.

Agree with wwbrown. The antennae are the key. The more "gain" in each antenna, the less power needed in the transmitter. You could even consider parabolic antennae, known as "dishes".
Does the system need to be portable? How much time for setup? If the equipment requires 110 VAC you will need deep cycle batteries and inverters.

For this type of work the power draw is usually not much so I leave a small rechargeable wet cell 12 volt battery, they are used in emergency lighting in commercial buildings. Here is an example of the batteries I am talking about
http://www.batteriesplus.com/products/566-0/3767-Emergency-Light-Security-Battery/57007-Ademco/4110XM/1.aspx

They are much lighter than a car battery. At the shooting end I would use one of these or run a wire from my car battery. Watch yourself if you are using you car battery to run equipment all day, especially if you are in an isolated area with only one battery, guess how I know that.

Much of the equipment will take 12 volts DC direct into there power jack, look at the adapter and see what voltage it is.

Thanks for the advice and links guys. I found this one from Target-Sight in
WA.

As you've suggested, he suggests an antenna connected to the transmitter
which I've found: http://www.l-com.com/item.aspx?id=27246

As explained to me, this type has more of a direct "laser beamish" type of
signal which gives it more strength at longer distances.

I was told that a second antenna connected to the receiver wasn't necessary.
However, they said for the best picture, both trans/receiver need to be
elevated up about 8-10' as a more direct line of communication. I have a
couple of C-stands that will be fine for that.

Do you think this setup would suffice?

After several days of research, I found the necessary components for my
target camera. I ordered the transmitter/receiver and battery packs on Wed.
They should arrive sometime today.

I already have a camera, tripod and monitor so this cuts my expense in half.
I also order an antenna/cable for over 2000 yds. for a stronger signal.

Looking to test it out next week. Once I have some useful information I'll
post it up.

More stuff to haul to the range! LOL.

Seriously though, I am considering building a unit over the winter for next season. 1000 yard capability is all I need. Looking forward to your report.

Yeah, you're right Charlie... More s*** to shelp. But it really won't be too
much more once I get everything situated. I have an case that will carry
all the components, a couple of C-stands to mount the trans/recev. antenna
on. Good to go!

Here's a link to a sight that has the target cam package if you don't want
to put your own together.

Say's it'll get out to 1000 yds.

Anyhow, I'll post up once I have more info.
Best.
