Target bullet recommendations please.

As part of a rather convoluted path toward building a 'benchrestety' AR-15 I may put together an upper chambered in 6X45. The final product will likely be chambered in 6 ARC but the 6X45 has intrigued me.

I am looking for bullet recommendations for 6X45. Must be jump tolerant as it will be loaded to mag length, 2.25". That puts a cap on the weight, as does the size of the case. 24" barrel, must be reasonably stablized by a 10 twist.

The game is Varmint BR for score at 300 yards, paper targets, shot from a from a portable bench. Mechanical front rest and rear bag, prone w/bipod, or tripod permitted. Must be a gas operated action. Not sure if single loading is permitted but I don't think so.

Thanks!

I'll second the Hornady 87 gr V-max. I shoot them in my 6x47 Rem 40-XBR and get good results. Granted it's not a gas gun and a bit longer case than your 6x45, but it speaks for the bullet.

In 6MM the 80 grain, Flat Based, Berger's are, tough to Beat FOR Short Range, Targets and,.. Pure, Accuracy !
Without going,.. full Custom.
And the 75 gr. Sierra, FB, MK, H-P Sierra's,.. are Right there,. with, them.

Find out about the single load or magazine feed first. It will make a great difference in load development.

With all the capitalizations and pauses I could not help hearing your post in Captain Kirk's voice. LOL

You consider 300 yards short range?

Sierra does not make a 6mm FB MK nor a 75gr 6mm MK.

The Berger 6mm 80gr FB is on my list. Thanks!

Yes, F B Bullets are usually, the "Choice" for best Accuracy at, 300 yds or, Less.
The 75 gr. Sierra, is a Flat Based, Hollow point, Varmint Bullet ( Sorry ) but, it is, extremely,.. accurate.
The ole' Memory is not as "Sharp" as, it once, was.

Christopher Walken. Lol

Don't be afraid to try some custom bullets.
Currently shooting 80gr Barts Dominator in 6x45 BHW upper

Flat base 80gr Berger has worked very well for me in 6br. A deceased friend had a very accurate 6x45 varmint rifle he shot it in. I saw him shoot it at a 200yd benchrest match that included a shooter with Hall of Fame points and win the match. Should be tried for sure. 87 gr Vmax has been accurate in every cartridge I have used it in along with the Berger 88gr.
