About 6-8 months ago I made friends with a fella on another forum (a 1911 forum) that doesn't live far from me. He seemed like a really cool guy. Great family with kids, like myself, and similar interests. One thing led to another and he decided he wanted to try deer hunting. So, last fall I helped him get a rifle and took him with me. We had a great time. This spring he decided he wanted to "upgrade" from that rifle to a different one and we found him a nearly new Savage 10FP .308 for a great price. Got a slightly used Bushnell 3200 10x40 and mounted it with EGW base and rings to keep everything within his budget.
Today, after four days of rain, we finally got the chance to take it to the range and see how it shoots. After getting it sighted in for him at 25 yards we went back to 100 yards and set up the table. Here is a picture of him shooting and a picture of his first ever group of 3 shots with FGMM 168g ammo I had on hand out of his "new to him" 10FP.
Not bad for a first time out with a new rifle and relatively new shooter! You should have seen the grin on his face when he fired the third shot! I'm pretty sure he is hooked...he's already talkin' bout what reloading dies to get for his new press! Now if I can only sucker him into shooting F Class with me...! It's great to have friends that enjoy shooting! Next time out we will do 5 and 10 shot groups and he wants to try prone instead of off the bench.
All in all, it was a great day...and did I forget to mention we shot a freshly finished custom 1911 while we were out there also!? Yes, being friends with a custom smith does come with perks. ;-)
