TAC powder

Anyone using TAC powder in 223 ? could it be worthy of using it for a match ?

What kind of match - what distance? TAC is a GREAT powder suited to the .223 and, in my own experience, it does best with the lighter bullets (say 62 grains and less), though it will work with the heavier bullets. If shooting across the course, FTR, etc., you might want a slower powder for the 'heavy bullets". Using with light bullets, it is great - but then most don't want to shoot light bullets too far. Best to get lots of opinions on this one though. What works/ doesn't work for me.....

Every rifle is different, each with it's own personality. I have 2, 223 rifles. One loves Reloder 10X and the other loves X-terminator. It took a lot of testing with different powders to find out what they like. I just got a pound of TAC to try. Just haven't made it to the range yet. I've read good things about it though.

When I started shooting service rifle across the course (to 600) I did a lot of research. I came up with 23.6 grains of TAC and 75 to 77 grain bullets. That, and Varget appeared to be the most common choices. I like TAC because it is very fine and dispenses well from anything, including my Chargemaster. It also burns very clean and minimizes copper fouling. Don't let one set too long in a hot chamber however, or you will be right over the target at 600.

Its a 100 yard local match . Iv used in my ar15 but not in a bolt gun. I shoot 52 and 60 grain bullets . 63 is the heaviest it will shoot accurately .its a 20 inch 1 in 9

Have both 18" Noveske and 16" WOA 1:7 barrels and 24.0 TAC, CCI 41 and either 77 Sierra or 75 Hornady both shoot with consistent accuracy. Meters well, burns clean. Temps in mid 90's, at the moment, without excessive pressure signs.

24.3 grains with CCI 450 and Hornady 60gr HP works better then anythng else in my RRA NM barrel. (Wilson barrel)

I've shot it out to 215 yards with verygood accuracy in some higher temps here in N. Florida. The bullet I loaded is 68 gr. Hornaday BTHP. 1-9 twist.

At 100 yards, Tac would be fantastic with a wide assortment of bullets, especially like 52 Bergers, 52 AMAX, and even 50 Z-Max for serious practice - they all will shoot really well with my 1-12 tw. and 1-9 twist guns.

I use to shoot TAC in my long range AR with 77 sierras (originally) then switched to 77 bergers. I too shot 23.6 grains of TAC. but inconsistency led me away from TAC and went to AA 2520 and have not looked back. have shot out to 891 yards with my long range AR (18 inch barrel) with outstanding consistency.

Interested in hearing more of your experience with the 77s. In particular as it relates to inconsistencies.

I was shooting 77 sierras with TAC originally. I got tired of sorting sierra bullets then later switched to berger 77s. my supply of TAC was getting low and I wanted to try some aa2520--it use to be a favorite at Camp Perry--needless to say, aa2520, 77 bergers, wolf srm primers, and LC brass is all I shoot in my long range AR. having said that, my 10-20 shot groups have tightened up quite a bit since I switch powder and bullets

Tac is very good, meters well, but it is REALLY temperature sensitive. At 600 yards with 80 grain bullets during august and September I have issues with blown primers and some fliers. I am not sure if the fliers are Tac's fault!! However I know from running a chrony string over an extended time frame that the tac will cause increase velocities and pressures.

For cooler weather its great. I am going to try H322 as Varget meters poorly and I don't want to weigh out charges for XTC.

H322 with WOLF or TULA primers is amazing stuff. I run it with 77 Nosler CCs.

For pushing out to 1000 yards though, I switch to XBR. I have a hotter. 5.56 pressure load developed to reach out that far.
