T10177 PTG 6br reamer

I need some help to determine if this is a "no turn" .272 reamer.

It sure looks like a .272 to me. It has a longer free bore such as needed to shoot the heavy bullets. Do you have a 1 in 8 twist barrel? .113 free bore would be to long for the lighter bullets. Normally for the lights you would use .045 - .060 in my opinion.

Ya, it a no turn but its awful tight at the .200 mark, .470. You'll end up with clickers if you run hot loads IMO. And like was already said its thoated for the 105's. I have a br with a .060 fb and if I did it again I'd go with a zero freebore for light bullets.

OP,,,as others have said ,,YES ,,,it is no turn (anything over .2705" is no turn) but there is more to a truble free rifle,,,my reamer is .471" at the .200 line and .271" ND and .080FB,,,and it works great with all bullets from 60 gr to 108gr....what more culd u ask,,,,,,,is this a reamer you are purchasing ,,or one a "smith" has that you are contemplating using????,,,,,IMHO it is not optimum for anything ,,but would work with the big-un's...untill you run em hot and then the resize die wont be able to squeeze the base back tight enuff to make extraction optimum,,,,,just sayin,,,Roger

30" 1-8 tw, the problem I am having is brass from another barrel is just a bit too large at the base. When I broke out a new box all was OK. Even when FL sized the base was still too large. The next problem is that the br case from Stoney Point now Hornady apparently does not go all the way into the chamber so when I check the bullet length it is about .040" too long.

So I broke out a new Gold box case and keep seating the bullet a little dealer until the marks from the lands (I used magic marker ) went away and then seated the Sierra .015" deeper.

It looks like all is well.Whould you venture to say that this reamer is on the tight side for the body?

Yes, saami spec at the .200 mark is .4714. This reamer is .470, I dont know why they make them so small it does nothing but create issues.

This is a reamer that is recommended on the 6BR page (this site) for the heavies. I think Roger has it figured out as far as the base goes.

OP,,,most 6mmBR Lapua brass measures .468" at the .200 line when new,,,and I think the chamber/reamer should be ~.003" bigger than that dim. (no matter what cal,,,222/30-06/399 mag,,)so tht you dont loose primer pokets ,,,and by using Redding dies (no need for custom $$ hi tec dies) type S you will get effortless resizing and chambering,,,Roger

So the Redding type "S" will return the base of the case to near new size? Do you think this will be needed after each firing or can I get away with neck sizing every other firing?

1,,,every time,,,if you wait till they are hard to extract or hard to close the bolt on ,,you have waited too long,,,there is a differance between "full length" dies that squeeze anything small enuff to fit anything ,,and dies that keep brass "near" original dims.....if you are having to "horse" the bolt open and closed ,,your brass,chamber,and resize die are NOT working in concert,,,Roger

A no turn neck is .around .270 if you use a .002 loaded round clearance measurement. A the .200 line, most reamers are marked .4708 and ends up .471 and no FL die seems to address this and i sure have a bunch of different brands. Two ways to go here make or buy a die that pulls the base down or get a reamer that will let the full length die work and the measurement at the .200 line is .4714. My cases have pasted the 100 firings last year and are still going strong and no tight bolt and i have never lost one to a loose primer or a split neck or shoulder. I anneal every time and full length size every time so everything is the same, neck sizing is a waste of time and it will shoot different than full sized cases due to volume. Full length every time and reduce your problems and get uniformity every time. I search for small groups of less than a .1 at 100 yds. and smaller is better and it shows at 1000 yds. ……. A .268" bushing for the thick wall brass is what was used by many top IBS shooters.
