SWN's info needed

Hello everyone,

I’ve got a few questions for the people that have competed at the SWN’s. This will be my first year in attendance and I would like to get some recommendations for decent and safe (my wife will be accompanying me) Hotels where other competitors will be staying.

I shoot F Open and will be competing in both mid-range and long-range and I’m also trying to figure out how many rounds to load for each.

Wednesday, If I’m not mistaken there are three 20 shot for record relays of mid-range (figured there would be at least 6 relays for nationals).

Thursday is Palma 4 Man Team so I won’t shoot on Thursday.

Friday is 15 shots for record at 800, 900 and 1,000

Saturday looks like 2 relays of 20 shots for record and then a 4 Man Team relay (not on a team yet).

Sunday looks like 2 more relays of 20 shots for record.

So if my math is correct (and I have doubts)!

Mid-Range would be 60 shots for record plus unlimited sighters on all relays.

Long-Range looks like 125 rounds for record and a whole bunch of sighters.

Plus since I’ve never shot there so it would be wise to go a day early and practice.

It'll be my first (hopefully of many) big matches and I don't know why but I was under the impression that when you went to a national match you loaded up like 600 rounds per rifle!

Can anyone confirm the number of shots for record?

Greatly appreciate the help and feedback.
Chris

75 for Wednesday
60 for Thursday
60 for Friday
60 for Saturday
60 for Sunday

That equals 315 rounds. I'd make it 325. I'm being generous for sighters, allowing 10 for every unlimited sighter relay. Any extra ammo you end up with you can shoot at a local match when you get home.

On Thursday's team shoot it may be possible to pick up an ad hoc team as there will be several others in your same shoes. Put up a note by the "wailing wall" and see what happens.

No matter where you stay, make sure you bring your rifle, ammo etc. into your room with you at night and if possible cover up any stickers on your vehicle that say "NRA" etc. BTW you can carry concealed or open in AZ with no permit under most circumstances. Internet the law.

Regardless of how many sighters you think you might need, it won't hurt much to load an extra twenty rounds or so. You can always use them later in a match or for practice if they're left over after SWNs, but if you need them when you're there and don't have them, that's a big problem. Somehow I almost always find myself taking a lot more sighters/foulers in long range matches than I would have typically guessed that I would need.

Thank you for the input. Being the OCD person that I am, most likely I'll load double what I think is needed as it was pointed out that not having enough is a big problem!

I like the Hampton Inn in Anthem, 3 exits North of the Carefree HY. Generally good breakfast at 0600. Lots of shooters stay there. Better hurry. I take 100, 6 Dasher rounds for the 600 yd. match and 300 for the Grand Agg. just in case I get ask to join a Team. Usually come home with over 100 rounds left for my Grand Agg. rifle. Have fun, you will love it.

Bring more ammo than you think. Just in case. Can always bring home leftovers but hard to reload more there. Hampton in Anyhem is where I used to stay before doing AIR B&B with buddies and splitting cost. Just be sure to take gear in at night and lock vehicle
