switching from moly coated to naked bullets

I just looked at my Rock Creek 6BR barrel with a borescope. I shoot moly. I clean with Bore Tech Eliminator.

There is no moly in my clean barrel. Not a single bit.

WARNING...WARNING...WARNING...............

You will need to back off your powder charge!! I was messing around with my 300 WBY hunting tube. It had been shooting moly since new...very well, mind you, but the tinkerer that I am, I decided to retest naked bullets.

Now, my original final load was 82 gr RL 25 behind Moly 210 VLD's. Now, this was a tad hard on brass, so I backed it off one grain to 81 grains. When I decided to try naked bullets, I dropped down another grain to 80.

KABOOM!!! Action locked up solid. I took the gun back home and had to pound the bolt open with a 2x6. my final load with naked bullets was 75 grains RL-25!! That is 6 to 7 grains below where I was with coated bullets!!!
So...just beware. I would cut way back and just load and shoot 1 per charge till you find out where max is.

Think safety, and good luck,
Tod
