Switch barrels?????

I have a rifle with 2 barrels how hard is it to switch one out?

I have read about switch barrel rifles but I know knothing about it. What do I need to do this?

Jonathan, you'll need a barrel vice, a action wrench and head space gauges. All can be purchased from Sinclair, their my preference because their people are shooters and are willing to give you helpful advice and tips. Midway also has every thing needed. Don't try and take a factory barrel off with one of these vices. Take factory install barrels to your gunsmith as they were originally put on by a 800 lb gorilla using a 5 ft cheater bar.

jonathan: Just recently had my first switch-barrel, another soon to follow. When picking up the rifle at my gunsmiths, he handed me the barrel in one hand and the receiver in the other and said 'put em together'. He then talked me thru the procedure using my Davidson barrel vice,Sinclair), Holland receiver wrench, torque wrench, torqued to 65 ft. lb). Everything went well, rifle is all I hoped it would be: simple swap, Blueprinted Rem 700 6BR to 308), and am not hesitating to 'do it again'. Don't want to tie up the post with another long winded reply: if you want any more info feel free to send a PM.;)

Depends on what rifle. If it is a Rem, Win, Sako etc. you will need a vice and an appropriate action wrench. If it is a Savage you will need a Savage barrel nut wrench. All of this is dependant upon knowing that both barrels have been fitted to this action.

Hay thanks guys the action is a Mcmillan its a rem 700 clone and I have the orginal barrel and a new much stouter one. I will need quit a few tools and unfortunatly my gunsmith is in Montana and im in NY so he will not be able to show me how.
