Switch barrel for blustery days

No question, however if you look at the equipment list from the nationals from '14 & '15 (I haven't seen 2016 equipment list) most if the top shooters are shooting 284's. must be a reason if the big dogs are all shooting them. Being that I have shot a whopping total of "2",1000 yard matches and have been the 4th and 5th loser respectively, I could use the extra few inches of fudge factor in the wind.
Larry, when I look at all the 1000 yard records set with a dasher I totally understand in the hands of a "student of the wind" anything is possible. Dan Dowling chambered a Krieger for me this spring for that very reason. However a Dr. Friend of mine said, "CW, if you doing something different then the champs and winning, your genius. If your doing something different and losing, your an idiot!" Got me to pondering.

With 98% of the shooter them would you expect anything less.
It was the same in long range now 98% shoot the 6mm and they have the same success.
Time will prove accuracy wins over BC
Ever year we are getting better barrels and bullets .
I feel the same about tuners .
The proved that you don't win in rimfire without one in time it will be in center fire .

1:8 or 1:7 3/4 for the 180-183 fun tokens? Assume most are shooting 32" straight taper barrels?
CW
1/9 for the 180 vld or hybrid minimum. I wouldn't go faster than 1/8.5 with any 180 class bullet. Rifle handling becomes more difficult as the twist rate increases.

Accuracy always beats BC when the shooter can accurately call the wind. BC has one essential function in f-class. It makes up for errors in the wind call.
Is it the shooter that make the wind call or the guns . From what I have seen it's the same shooter that win. They could take a 3030 and do the same . The reason their always at the top is because they are the best . Larry

If I was shooting purely 1000yd BR sure would choose a 6mm. But for fclass no. There's a reason why the best f classers in the world shoot 7mm or big 30 cals. Accuracy with these is fine for what we do. Shooting for group and for score are two different things, especially over 15 shot plus strings. A tiny group can be good. But if they aren't in the centre by 1/2 an inch because of the conditions when they could be due to superior ballistics, then what's the point. It's been argued before. You get less wind drift on big heavy bullets with high bc than that of smaller bullets with high bc. Paper says one thing, shooting in conditions that are front on, tail winds and fast switches either side says another. If your capable of reading wind to the half inch at 1000yds then Your a very lucky person.

To the original poster, keep your 6mm and enjoy it, but when your after more points at 1000, try a 284 and let us know how your scores go...

I was in Mulligan's position a year ago.

Finances back in '11 dictated that I would have just one gun for F-Open and I chose the Dasher for all of the great reasons and it has won a number of Palma and 1K club matches and Long Range Regionals.

But after shooting the '15 Nationals and '16 BSWNs (even shooting some Cleans and punching my HM ticket) I saw the value in the 7s in Phoenix. Especially after shooting some "extra" rounds out of Bob Bock's 7mm after his final String of the match was over; it pounded Xs and the recoil is manageable. That big 180 Hybrid just works better in heavy wind.

I'll be bringing a .284Shehane in February and will use it in our 1K club matches. The Dasher gets the 600yd and Palma duty now.

Running a switch barrel only costs about a grand for barrel, dies, components and such. Far cheaper than a second complete rifle.
