Swing and Paramount target rifles

Added a quite rare Swing Mk5 to join the Paramount in my target rifle collection. Both are pretty uncommon in the US since both started life in the UK. Anyone have any insight into them it would be appreciated.

The top rifle is very likely to have been built by Bob Gamboa. I have seen the same rifle or one very much like it on the cover of June 1996 Precision shooting magazine. That rifle was built for Johnie Franklin, a US Palma stalwart, according to the small piece devoted to the cover photograph. It has a Warner rear sight and RPA front sight. The stock was described as being a Richards Microfit surprisingly.

The lower rifle is unusual in that it is in a position stock rather than prone stock so I'm not sure of the intended usage. Most position stocks, at least in the US, would be built around a repeater action rather than single shot so could be it was built for 300m competition. I'm not sure of the sights on the rifle, the rear doesn't appear to be Wilkes that was standard on UK rifles, but neither does it appear to be a Warner, maybe some copy of the latter.

Edited to add: If you want to see lots of photos of Swings, Paramounts, RPA and the odd Barnard in action, just click on the NRA UK website and hit the facebook tab as the main event of the year, the Imperial, has just commenced.

The rear sight on the Swing is a Centra that I put on it. I also added the Warner to Mr Franklins rifle after I was lucky enough to purchase it.

My first prone rifle was based on the Paramount action. It worked very well and would still be competitive today, without question. The only issue that I had with the action itself was the firing pin assy. Mine came loose due to vibration and I would suggest: diassemble and clean mating parts with acetone. Reassemble with red Loktite and let solidify. Once I did this, the firing pin assy never budged again.

Think I placed 6th overall in the Tompkins agg at Camp Perry in 1997, the Palma tryout year. Also made the team and picked up an 800M medal in South Africa using it.

Just acquired a paramount Palma in 308. Need help sourcing a part fit it, think it is called bolt release assembly. Any and all help is greatly appreciated

HPS target rifles in the UK may be able to help. The rifles have not been made for years but they may have parts availability or know where to source a replacement.
