Surprised by observation

I have a question about fluorescent lights and digital scales. Is it the fluorescent bulbs or the ballast that creates the electro magnetic interference problems with digital scales. I ask because I was considering going with the LED bulbs that requiring no rewiring.
Ballast. Get the direct wire bulb conversions. It takes 5mins to do it right

Oley,
In typical fluorescent lighting and especially newer ones with the electronic ballasts cause a lot of emi which is what causes the interference with electronic devices, the bulbs can cause some as well, led is another animal of its own and also causes electrical interference. I have retrofitted lots of fluorescent lights and ballasts for direct led hookup but can’t answer if they would bother a scale or not!... be worth a try , for sure you would have no more from ballast

So, what do we do with the bulbs (LED and so forth) that the government has forced on us. I’ve seen them cause the same problem, I believe....

Well solid grounding will help which most are not but it won’t fix it completely it’s the nature of the beast!... incandescent lighting doesn’t cause interference like the other two due to the fact it’s just a simple resistive load and that’s why I still use old school lighting in my loading room.

Put me in the camp that had no problem with his Gempro 250, other than the issues associated with using a load cell type scale (i.e. it’s slow). I never had any drifting problems.

I’ve moved on to the A&D FX120 and auto trickler, but I keep the Gempro as a back up.

LED's themselves don't emit RFI. The power supplies that are in the bulb might, depending on what they're using in the particular bulb. If you have problems with RFI from LED bulbs, you may want to try switching manufacturers.

The best thing I ever did for myself in the shooting world besides going from factory to custom was smashing my GemPro into hundreds of pieces and putting them in a box beside my garbage can so every once in a while, while using my GD503 I could look down and smile at the rubble!.... I lost a lot of sleep and was constantly on the verge of a massive heart attack when using that pos!...

That's when you got a good beam scale???

I got a GD503 electronic scale.ive had a tuned 1010 for 30 years and still do. I have recently picked up a M5 and going to send it to Parker and get it tuned.

i have a denver instrument scale that i bought new in 1996? something like that. its been pugged in for most of the last 24years, with no issues whatsoever. like all scales it drifts a bit and you need a solid table, but other than that..flawless. that scale and a set of harrell's measures were some of the best money i've spent on reloading.
