Surgeon actions

I havent dealt with them personally but I plan to get one of the single shot target actions for my next rifle. if you do get one post about it here and let us know!

I have a new GA Precision rifle built on a surgeon action and I would highly recommend it. It's a great action for the cost too. No need to buy a recoil lug or a scope base -- the lug and base won't come loose or be out of alignment either. It fits directly into any stock for a rem 700. The bolt is as smooth as my Nesika and I like the bolt handle better than any other rifle I have.

I believe I have the second target action that surgeon built. The precision put into these actions are super. They don't need anything done to them before assembling them. They are made right from the start. They do have to have some extra wood removed from the left side of the stock where their bolt stop fits when putting them in a stock built for a Remington action. The bolt stop is made on the side of the action and requires some relief for it. Preston shoots one of his own actions and holds the record high score for 600 yard at Red Castle gun club.

Hey SF340Driver. That is pretty much what I was thinking of doing. I have a PSS that GA Precision fixed up for me,George does great work!!). I am going to have a custom rifle built, and have been tossing ideas around... between a Surgeon .308 in a MCM A-5 with a Broughton 5C with a Badger DBM and Jewell trigger or... a 6mmBR,w/ custom action, stock etc...). I think I am leaning towards the Surgeon / GA Precision. George trued the PSS, and installed a Jewell, Badger bottom metal,no DBM yet) and a Badger brake and recoil lug. I love that freakin' rifle!!,Pics can be seen on The Hide). Was at the range today with it... best group was .356" Regularly shoots 1/2 MOA,sometimes better if I can manage it). I know that on this forum, that is like hitting the side of a barn, but pretty good for me! On the other hand, a custom BR is very tempting... decisions, decisions. Hell, maybe I'll just get both, and suffer the consequences from the wife). Anyway, thanks for the replies.

Thanks also, bglenn. Do you have experience with BR actions also, does the Surgeon compare, within it's own right, I know those are very specialized actions)?

philly - I have limited experience with custom actions. I have a Predator and the Surgeon. I put in a order for the Predator about 15 months before they became available. I found out about the Surgeon 9 months after I ordered the Predator. They are both first class. The difference is what is your desire. Surgeon - High Carbon steel - Predator Stainless steel - both heat treated for strength. Myself I favor the High carbon steel. The tolerances on the Surgeon target are closer. But that was the way they were designed. Stiller has close tolerance stainless actions. decisions, decisions. Hope this helps.

Hey Glenn. Thanks for the replies. This being my first "custom" rifle, I find myself second guessing every decision that I make. But I keep gravitating toward the Surgeon.
