Surface glare on old micrometer

I have an older micrometer that doesn't have the dull satin finish of later models.

Any glare on tis finish makes it difficult to read.

Anybody have simple/easy fix for this ?

"Buy another one and trash it" has already been suggested.

Wonder if you carefully masked it if it could be glass bead blasted

What if you just covered the shiny parts with some opaque tape?

Try lightly abrading with a ScotchBrite pad in a small/inconspicuous spot first. Continue to other areas if you’re satisfied with the outcome...

Why not get a sheet of anti-glare cover that's used on phone screens and cut it to the required size and stick it on?
