suppressor problems

Hi everybody,

we have made a suppressor like the one in this web site

All has seemed to be going well, however, does any one have any facts on the heat build up in the suppressor. Ours get hot where the holes are. Is this a problem?

we drilled out the holes in 60 % of the suppressor with the first 40% from the barrel untouched, like the web site. should it be drill out throughout the suppressor?

Im asking this as it is on our TRG 42 win 300 mag, It is very quiet, but shoots 4 inches lower at 100yards than with the muzzle brake. Once I adjusted by 4 MOA it shoots the same spot at 450 yards, within a few iches but gets flt aways of 10 inches, So the trg with muzzle brake gets 2-4 inch groups but the trg with suppressor gets 2 within 4 inches and then a fly away.

ANy suggestions would be very appreciated.

If it ain't getting hot it ain't working................ Thats how a can works its a big heat sink.

Make sure the projectile is not hitting anything.

this may be a silly question, but how would you check that it isnt hitting?

check for marks on the inside?

push something through??

how big should the hole be compared to the bullet size?

How many shots per group? What conditions? Heat buildup on suppressor can cause some serious mirage and thus move your actual POA.

Easy way to check that bullet isn't hitting anything is to remove bolt, mount suppressor and then look through the bore from chamber end. You just center your eye to the bore,so that you see identical amount of barrel interior/rifling on all sides) and then check that suppressor internals are also centered in your view.

Key is centering your eye. You can try to partially screw in the suppressor so that it's not properly centered,gravity tilting it downwards). Then you can see what it looks like if things ain't square...

3 shot groups with at least 10 mins rest.

calm cool conditions, the suppressor was hot after 3 shots though! we took it off every 3 to shoot with the muzzle break again.

it was hot enough that I couldnt hold it at the end where the holes were.. Is this too hot? Should I put holes the whole way down the tube?

I will check by sighting through the barrel.

As stated, look through it and use a visual check. There are things that govern the use of one. Use an indicator if you have one
1 It MUST be in alignment with the bore line. Just because it's parallel does not mean it's in alignment the full length
2 It must be positively located when installing one. Threads alone do not insure an alignment. Class three and a ground surface are the best means of alignment
3 The close proximity relationship of the ID to the bullet diameter + length/depth

When all is done Then direct attention to the holes. LOL
