SuperFormance powder

I've started experimenting with superformance powder in 260 rem. Winchester 243 brass necked up, CCI BR-2 primer, 140 Nosler custom competition. I started at 44 grains working up to 48 grains, shot over the crony, and closely watching for pressure signs. Amazingly easy on pressure, but but big increase in velocity and recoil. I then loaded 20 rounds with 48 grains and shot from the 600 yrd. line. Grouping was ok, but i didn't like the recoil. I saved 4 rounds then shot them through the crony. 3065 fps with a 30 in. barrel. Im loading back to 46 grains now, then trying them at a 600 match tommorrow.

I am shooting the same bullets out of a 30" barrel also and getting 3000fps with 47.4gr RL19 from my 260AI and im just on the edge of getting pressure signs. 3065 is impressive with a 260, even on my stronger Ackley loads i just barely broke 3055.

I really havent yet been getting the groups i am hoping for, around .5" at 100 yards, but it will hold the 10 ring all day at 300. I just gave the rifle a bedding job and will be out testing it tomarow, i am hoping for .3" or better.

Ive been using BR-2 with 7mm-08 Winchester brass necked down and just waiting for Lapua 260 brass to come out so i can fire form it.

3000fps is all of the velocity im looking for, i got 500 of these noslers CC for $45 thats why ive been shooting them but i think i will try Sierra next or if my pocket book feels heavy maybe some Burgers.

But thanks a ton for the update, i have been wondering about this and will have to buy a pound to play with in the next month or two.

Following up. I shoot a custom F class open gun that will hold 3/8" groups at 100 yds. This was done with varget powder. I was pleased with the velocity, pressure, and recoil of the 46 grains of superformance. But the accuracy wasnt there for 600 yd target shooting. Winds werent bad so that wasnt an issue. I could keep them within the 9 ring, but thats not enough. In an 80 rd match, i shot 20 points below what i can do with varget. Im going to pick up some 4350 today, to try this week. Shooting 1000 yds practice on wed. then long range match this weekend.

Same brass, bullet, and primer. I just tried hodgdon's max load for 260. 48 grains of 4831sc and 44.5 grains of 4350. I did a 5 shot group of each. 4350 had 3 shots all through a 1/4 in. hole , with the 4th shot connecting on top and the 5th shot connecting on the bottom. Overall about a 5/8's in. straight vertical tear. The 4831sc was scattered in a 5 shot horizontal group 1 in. center to center about 3/8's in. high. That could have been my fault. Position from the bench wasn't as comfortable. I bumped up to 45 grains of 4350 and zeroed from 1000 yd line yesterday. I am going with that load for 1000 yd matches this weekend.

I have seen on hodgdon's website that they now have load data for more cartridges. I was experimenting with different powders this week for my 30-06 hunting rifle. Superformance was listed in there loads. I still have some left, maybe I will try it. I have been quite pleased with 4350 though. Did you ever try it in your 260AI ?

No, I still havent gone out and gotten any. I switched from R19 to H4831 to see if anything changed. With 140gr Amaxs Ive been getting major accuracy at low velocites +/- 1/4 MOA groups out to 300 yards.

Im trying to see what kind of accuracy I can squeeze out of it with a slightly compressed load of 47.7gr.
