SuperChrono Thoughts

You said he shoots with it on all the time. So go work a load up with it on and then take it off after load development. I bet the load would change. Even if slightly, it would change

The theory supports this but no one that I am aware of has proved it one way or another. I have used mine out to 900 yards with a load that was developed without it and held the 10 ring no problem. Plenty good enough for me to compete (club level) and get real world es/sd data.

The up shot is - I find the magneto very useful for gathering data over the course of a season without extra trips to the range. I'm not so confident that I would do 100 yard load development with it - but that is more about me proving to myself one way or another whether or not it has an impact.

other than no low speed sensing the BIGGEST single draw back is the LACK of REMOTE DISPLAY...

USELESS in my opinion

New version in September, maybe, will address that concern.

I'm wondering if the change in the speed of sound from one environment to the other could have any effect on the readings or if it doesn't matter because it is at least constant for all 3 readings.

The change in speed of sound due to different environments will have no effects on the measured speed of the bullet. The speed of sound will be the same along the bullet's path as it passes over the chronograph and that is all that is needed.
Agreed, and I am no wizard by any stretch, but if the SOS is 1085 fps, and then that changes to say 1100 fps due to an outside influence. But my projectile is travelling at say 1085 fps, then I would lose the capability to measure as this works off sonic waves right?

Someone asked about sd... it is missing some bells and whistles like not calculating sd, mode, median, or even es. It will give you the mean average of all recorded shots. The rest you have to calculate yourself.

If a barrel tuner can make a change in group size by twisting a fraction of a turn, then why doesn't the magneospeed do the same when you add a pound to the barrel? Could it be that the connection between the chrono and the barrel is not rigid enough to transfer high freq energy? I've never used one, so I have no basis to refute that it does not change group size, but it does seem plausible that something would change.

Do you guys find it is good for determining ES/SD of a load? I read that if its not perfectly horizontal it can throw the readings out - while that would be annoying does it track the speeds relative speeds ok within that imperfect set-up; to the point that you could make decisions about a powder charge based on the ES/SD numbers?

This question has been holding me back.
aside from not calculating sd, I find it very useful for es even if it is not set up correctly. For instance, on my range the long range targets may be at a 15 degree angle to the 100 yard target. If I switch targets the chrono will still pickup the shot but the velocity will read little slow. However it is consistant so the es numbers are still meaningful.

aaah - sweet - thanks - that's what I was after.
