Super quiet .22 rounds

I find myself in need of a .22 round that makes as little noise as possible with enough energy to kill a squirrel (head shot) at close range.
It would also be great if you have a link to where I can buy them or from one of the guys here. I only need about a 100.

Thanks to all.

If you can find some CCI part number 960. That is a quiet round that is the length of a regular 22LR. 710fps with a 40gr bullet. Quieter then a pellet gun in my testing.

I would try the CCI 22 Short CB. They make a short and a long CB. Both are a 29 gr bullet rated at 710 fps. I have found the short to be much more accurate. The down side is some 22's will not feed a short so you have to load one at a time. (my Marlin tube fed gun feeds shorts really well) I have shot squirrels and cotton tails with them for over 15 years. They work well and are quieter than an air gun as stated above.

These are super quiet. Great for the backyard grackles & starlings.

I shoot the CCI CB Longs. They are incredibly quiet - less noise then a Gamp pellet gun that i have out of a bolt action. I have shot the CB shorts as well i just havent noticed any difference in noise --- Moreover the Longs feed better and i like the fact that the bullet do no have as far of a jump to the rifling.

You wont go wrong either way but the CB Longs are awesome...

Super Colibri. Try a box of 50 to make sure they work in your rifle. I have one rifle I use them in and get one shot squirrel kills out to about 25 yrds. I have heard some guys say accuracy is horrible and a few say they have stuck bullets in long barrels. They make a Colibri at 300 some FPS and the Super Colibri at 500 some FPS. Get the Super.

Aguilla sniper sub sonics. 55 grain IIRC. They will cycle a 10/22 also!

Based on my extensive testing with this round, I wouldn't recommend it for OP's intended purpose; the 60gr projectile has problematic accuracy in 1 in 16 twist barrels at best. Once in awhile you find one that doesn't object to it too much, but they are rare. It will work fine in a 10/22 build with one of the aftermarket 1 in 9 twist barrels.

I got lucky with mine the butler creek carbon barrel in mine gets it done. I need to get a new barrel that I can thread for a suppressor, as I have one on the way and the butler creek has the built in brake on it.

You did get lucky, and it happens once in awhile. Of the many rifles that cycled through my test program, only one (a rather unlikely candidate, a Ruger 10/22 Target) shoots the Aguila 60gr SSS round with more or less acceptable accuracy - the rest group in the .75+ inch to 1.5+ inch range at 50 yards, and the Ruger, while it doesn't appear to be particularly annoyed by the SSS round, will still have an occasional unexplained flyer. And the one that patterns, shooting 1.5 inches or a bit over, is a target rifle that will shoot the sorriest bulk pack ammo around .46 inch all day long, and much better on the match ammos it likes. You never know with the SSS round, but for anyone wanting predictable accuracy and not wanting to go through a hundred or more .22 rimfire rifles to find one that doesn't dislike that round, the fast twist barrel conversion is the only reliable way to get to or under 1/2 inch at 50 yards, your exception and mine not withstanding. My 10/22 with the Volquartsen 1 in 9 twist barrel does fine every shot; none of the rest did, and the target .22 is definitely the one you hear about once in awhile that absolutely detests the SSS round. :o

Well guys I really appreciate the answers. I believe I can find something within your responses to help me.

I made a big mistake for not stating these cartridges will be shot in a .22 Ruger Bear Cat 5 " revolver barrel (also a 10/22 custom).
However I have no problem out to 20/30 feet with the Bear Cat and head shots! My problem is "noise" !

Sorry I didn't say up front the firearm being used, just so upset with these squirrels, sorry!

Haven't found anything (CCI 960), I mean NO .22 ammo whatsoever except 1! I have plenty of Winchester Super X hollow points. I knew things were bad but this is ridiculous!
In my opinion this situation is nothing but PURE greed.

One place wanted over $40. for 500 rounds of the (CCI 960's)! If people keep buying it, they will keep raising the price.
Just STOP, and you will be surprised what happens!

Both Grafs and Midway had small amounts of CCI960 for sale in the last few weeks at normal prices ~$3 / box. I managed to snag a carton - first I have seen in almost 2 years. Hopefully this is a sign that these will be coming into stock more regularly. I wish that I could just backorder them and wait.

I talked to the guy in charge of AMMO at my local Wall Mart and he told me that he hasn’t seen any of the CCI 960's since he has been working there, He wanted some to!

However thanks to all for their advise.
