Morning hunt out of our South rifle stand.
While deer hunting last weekend I shot this young female coyote at approximately 125 to 135 yds just before sunrise. I was a little late getting into the blind Saturday morning it was already breaking daylight. I had just gotten two of the four blind windows opened when I spotted movement, a small coyote moving across a narrow opening approximately 180 yards out just east of the feeder. It was heading into a bunch of heavy cedars trees which line the creek bed in the area. I always carry a small mouse squeaker in my backpack, it's located in a small external front mesh compartment. I'd had set my pack in a corner of the 4'x4' deer blind floor so I immediately give the squeaker a couple of kicks with my foot and reached for my rifle. The yote hearing the squeaks turned and started to head straight for the rifle stand, being she was coming in from a direction that would put her somewhat down wind and being I didn't yet have that side window open and knew the noise of doing so would most likely alert her I elected to stick my rifle and upper body out the front window being she wasn't now visible and the cedars trees between us provided concealment. She hung up somewhere around 75 yds out still behind the trees, she either heard me chamber a round or more likely she winded me. I next spotted her trotting away down a small narrow tree lined opening. Hoping to stop her I licked the back of my right hand and started sucking trying to imitate a injured rodent, it worked because she stopped and turned presenting me a easy broadside shot. Don't let anyone tell ya that a 6x47 Lapua shooting a A-max's 105 gr bullet won't get the job done, that is unless your wanting to save the hide, as the bullet produced a huge exit wound.
Wishing y'all safe hunting.
